Never heard Tom or Gayle Benson pronounce it that way

Ok? Not sure how they are relevant to my comment. Tom grew up in the 7th and Gayle is from the wank

Not saying you’re wrong but I don’t think that’s accurate. Can’t say that I’ve ever heard a ton of old New Orleans uptown people speak like someone from Compton

Charleston took tourism away.

You have no idea what you are talking about if you really think that.
Nola tourism has been booming and back to pre Katrina levels recently.
Destroya probably was going to start causing a dent in it, but Covid made sure that it was going to happen and then some.

You have a lot to tell. What you see today isn't nothing compared to the history of corruption in NO.

This is totally BS.

I'm not defending the general voting habits of the stupids in Nola and the elected officials. Just know that Nola has been better the last 15 years than it was in the previous 30.
I know the crowd that comes to town wearing jorts and eating fried food while sucking down hand granades has trouble grasping that. You also think the whole city is either projects or Bourbon St.

I’d say it has been deteriorating very quickly over the last 5 years. Also tough to compare crime totals since population density is so much lower now and large swaths of the East are mostly uninhabited.

Can you imagine how badly COVID would have affected Nola had Katrina not decreased the popular density so severely?

It’s the other way around. She’s trying to fit in by saying Orleans in an affected manner that a very small group uses. It’s a shibboleth

Seems to me a shitload of condos and apartments were built in or near downtown the last 10 years that added to the “density” of the city.
The population loss from Katrina did not come from those areas

at the hotel monteleone in line to check in at about 11:00 in the morning. Guy in front of me says to the girl at the desk "I just flew in from LA, I really want to shower before the game, can you let me into my room?" (It's the Saints Rams game). She says sorry sir can't let you into your room until 3:00. Guy says that's no good, I just came in from LA, can I please get in my room. Girl says sorry, can't do it. Guy reaches into his pocket, pulls out a $100 bill. Says come on, I just flew in from LA. I just want to shower. She says "just one moment sir." Goes back to talk to her girlfriend for a minute. Comes back and says "Believe it or not something just opened up." Got damn if that baw didn't get taken straight to his room.

I’ve been doing shite like at hotels, restaurants, etc. this for decades in the city. I thought it was status quo until my first time in New York. We were wanting to get into some high end steak house without reservations. Pulled out a hundred and started to hand it to the host and she said I’ll take the money but we still don’t have seats. Realized real quick New Orleans is...different

Used to be a hell of a lot more corrupt than it is now.

That goes for the whole state

I mean it’s not as bad as acid in ballot boxes and racketeering has decreased but the corruption has evolved and people are numb to it as “the way it is”.

LA politics are a lost cause.

Whatever bum frick small town your family is in most likely has a massive amount of corruption.

It's just new Orleans doesn't take the effort to hide it like other places.

When your main tourist attraction in Nola is bourbon street with people showing their tits, hiding things isn't worth the effort.

Has anyone here had to go to city hall for any reason?

I suggest a field trip if not.

Just go there to get some info or maybe pay a bill.
If you really want to experience it, go there with a complaint.

The police department is under federal consent decree.
The city jail is under a separate federal consent decree.
One former mayor just got out of federal prison due to Covid.
Current city councilman, who is running for District Attorney, is under federal indictment

You can probably expand it to the whole country. Where is the OP from that government corruption and incompetence is so shocking to them? I’d be interested to know. If it’s a city with any size there is corruption or incompetence going on.
