Was early 2000’s the greatest era of local band scene in BR?

There was:
Better than Ezra
Benji Davis Project
Liquid Sand
Meriwether
12 Stones
Original Chee Weez
The American Tragedy (I think they were from Shreveport but played BR a lot)

They were great. Best of that bunch honestly.

I am grateful to have been a student at LSU at that time. I don’t know about most of the bands you mentioned but between BR and NO there was basically great live music multiple times a week.

Their drummer was the best I’ve ever seen. Skinny guy with bleach blonde hair and never wore a shirt

Good times. The 2010’s have been pretty lame for local bands by comparison as there’s just not a lot of support for them other than crappy cover bands like Parish County Line and Neutral Snap.
There’s a lot of talent around here Right now, though:
Captain Green
Wonder Kid
Swamp Stank
RiaRosa
Ship of Fools
Magic Crawfish
Ventruss
Catbamboo
BaBy in the 90’s
Bayou Bullets
The Hitchhiker
Loudness War
Carter Patrick & the Telegraph Salesman
Minos the Saint
The Humble Kind
Dalton Wayne & the Warmadillos
Jonathan “Boogie” Long

This is an understatement. Nobody in BR gives a shite about live music anymore. Hell, they don’t even go out to see cover bands anymore. Denham Springs has a more active live music scene than Baton Rouge.

Which is sad because the talent is there. Heck, my crappy little local band struggled to draw crowds, even when playing covers, before our singer hit it big on American Idol. Another friend’s band can barely get 30 people to come see him in his home town of BR, but tours all over the globe, including Japan. Most of my friends get way bigger crowds playing towns in Mississippi and Texas they’ve never been to than where they’re actually from.

No. The late 80’s and early 90’s saw national acts appear at varsity. The Pixies and spin doctors played one year, amongst others. The Bayou has some bands in the early 80’s that later went big, like REM. The Chimes had a good routine of acts including Mojo Nixon, IIRC.
