The poles are right next to each other. 0m apart.

This isn't a simple brainteaser at all. A hanging wire forms a catenary, and to solve for the distance you need calculus.
ETA: i'm dumb, I missed the fact that the low point of the cable was 40m from the top. Right next to each other. Cable has to be doubled on itself.

Right next to each other.

You dumb...
The only way for the midpoint of an 80 meter wire to be 10 meter off the ground from a 50 meter pole is if it is hanging straight down.

How can an 80m cable be hanging 10m from the ground and 40m from each side?
50m - 10m = 40m x 2 = 80m. The answer has to be zero and this is not drawn to scale.

I feel like you have to make a right triangle with the 10m but idk how since you only have one side

I disagree with you. Simple math tells you that an 80 meter cable that has its bottom tip 40m below the top means that there is no lateral distance between the poles. In other words -- if it were a straight line to the bottom, you'd have a right triangle with one leg = 40m (the drop) and the hypotenuse = 40m (the length of the cable). That leaves the other leg = 0.

350 and 288 were already taken
so 0
for an 80 meter cable to hang from two 50 meter poles and be 10 meters from the ground (so 40 meters down), the poles would have to be right next to each other.
And this is America
Use feet or yards next time.
Communist.

You have 2 sides -- the vertical drop of 40m and the half of the 80m cable.
This leaves a remaining leg in the triangle of zero.

This is not drawn to scale...
Good job to whomever answered “Zero”

50m - 10m = 40m x 2 = 80m. The answer has to be zero and this is not drawn to scale.
This is correct. I missed the 80m cable on my initial answer and took it as a scaled parabola.

Its a whole lot easier to measure the length between the poles than to measure the length of the cable
Posted on 8/12/20 at 11:42 am to yankeeundercover
The pole is 50m tall... the bottom of the cable is 10m above the ground... the cable then goes back up to the top of a 50m pole
The cable is 80m
50m-10m=40m
40m to the bottom and 40m to the top =80m
The poles are 0m apart and the picture is bullshite

Right, but it's a quick sanity check.
One leg of the right triangle is 40 (the distance from the low point of the cable to the top of the pole.)
The hypotenuse of the right triangle can not be longer than 40 (half the cable length).
There's only one solution - vertical side is 40, hypotenuse is 40, other leg of the 'triangle' is 0.
ETA: I should have read the whole thread - lots of people already answered.

That's when you ask "who the hell wrote these specs expecting a long curved cable?"
