Idk but where the buoy is located in the gulf would definitely matter

MAJOR HURRICANE LAURA - A devastating storm is going to make landfall in SW LA overnight tonight. This storm will bring a catastrophic storm surge inundating the entire Louisiana coastline, a 15’ surge is possible near the eye with those values decreasing the farther away you get. If you have family or are still in the mandatory evacuation areas, you do NOT want to go through this. Don’t COMPARE your experience with other storms to this storm, none of this is worth risking your life.

It’s gonna be windy like a motherfricker. That’s what it means.
I know what it means, but I know from experience that MOST on here don't.
Congrats to those that do.

Anybody got a clue what the forward motion will be at landfall?
Probably counterclockwise.

Quick local update for you...

So all the old people on my facebook feed are sharing a post that says that an offshore buoy just recorded a wave of 37.4 feet and that the biggest Katrina wave was 28ft.
Is this factual in anyway?
Could very well be. Rogue waves aren't all that uncommon with powerful systems. Ivan had a rogue wave of 91 ft. that was over 600 yards long. Ivan also had estimated waves in the eye wall over 130ft.
That does not directly correlate to what makes it to shore, but is an indicator of how much water the storm is moving over open ocean.

Any chance this thing runs more NE and impacts New Orleans and Baton Rouge, or are we close enough that it’s pretty certain it’s headed for the Texas/Louisiana line?

What’s it like to be completely oblivious to the world around you? It actually sounds really nice.
