The surf here in Seacrest is almost to the dunes. It's amazing how much water these storms can move

Statistically this means that the highest waves could have been as high as 32.1 m

For the mathematically challenged, that is 105 feet.

There used to be a Weather Underground webcam on Big Lake but I can't find it.

The model predicted significant waves height to be 15.4m (50.5ft) high. Indeed, waves in the eye of the hurricane were observed to be extremely high, upto 16.9m. Two buoys in the Gulf of Mexico were close to the pathway of Hurricane Katrina; one buoy capsized and last recorded waves of 10.5m, the other buoy recorded the waves throughout the passing of the storm and found significant wave heights to be 16.9m. Statistically this means that the highest waves could have been as high as 32.1 m (WMO, 1991).

Yeah, but those measurements are in meters. It may as well be Japanese.

NHC wind field size graphic appears to put BR at the outer limit of the TS wind field if it comes in at LC and there's a 70-80% probability of TS force winds and 2-4 inches of rain (based on current track).

Any other GODD information/estimates of what BR area will get wind/rain wise other than that?

The official forecast was actually lowered from last night. It had BR experiencing 32mph sustained winds and now it’s down to 28mph. The stronger she gets the more tightly wrapped she will be.

Yes, y’all go ahead and downvote me for repeating the official forecast. Mother fricker some of you want doom and gloom so bad.

quoting my self from a few pages back:
quote:

LINK
Buoy is about 20mi from eye reading 90kt gusts and 30+ foot waves already. Unfortunately there aren’t many buoys off Cameron Parish’s shores on the continental shelf and we won’t see what happens when those large ocean waves begin to shoal on the shelf. As one may recall, Ivan holds the record for 90+ foot waves generated LINK

Station 42395 - Shell Alcyone Buoy - C16522 - Walker Ridge 552 registered a 37 footer at 4 am. Unfortunately, there are no other operable buoys in the path.

I know I sound like I'm on their payroll, but check out hurricanetrack.com.
It will cost you $10, but you will get access to live cams up and down the coast.

Can’t get Waze to show traffic. Have people coming in from LC to stay with me. Any recent reports ? TIA

Use Google Maps.

As of right now, traffic looks wide-arse open. If they aren't on the road already, though--tell them it's time to go.

140 at flight level already? That will likely have time to work it’s way down to the surface by this evening.

This damn thing is bombing out big time. Time for the thread to get serious, this will be a devastating storm

It is legit now that it incorporates Waze. Still a bit rocky, but works most of the time.

Is there a halfway accurate formula to figure out what kind of gusts that would produce?

In BR for Gustav I believe the wind speed topped out at 68 mph sustained. Gusts went to 93. It was very bad. There was a lot of power outages and a lot of downed trees.

When they tell you that you could get 70 mph winds, and you have large trees around your house that spells trouble. You coild be in harms way. Gusts could approach 100.
