For direct wind impacts, yes.
Unfortunately, storms that landfall there push water up across all of LA down to Terrebonne Parish.
Are you in a contest with yourself to try to prove how smart you are?

When you asked how many people had actually dealt with hurricane force winds. You asked that in an attempt to discount their personal experiences with these type of storms. What do I win?
I asked that to get some perspective for tiger91. She just answered, and I gave her my response a post or two above yours.
People say they're not leaving for a 1 or a 2 all the time, but as she just mentioned, she's never rode out a hurricane.

Lili is a great example. Much of Acadiana left, but only those in Intercoastal City and extreme southern parts of Vermillion Parish had any substantial wind impacts
We went to Ville Platte for Lili -- the wind there was as bad as here from what I remember being told. The eye passed right over my parents home.
Regarding the water, we didn't flood for Rita (old house but it flooded for 2016 August flood) and our new house didn't flood for Rita OR the 2016 flood.
I guess we'll just continue our wait and see approach for now.
Thanks.

You people need to leave Slackster alone.

I guess it is possible but the key is that HMON and HWRF are agreeing on landfall location for this run.

Lili is a great example. Much of Acadiana left, but only those in Intercoastal City and extreme southern parts of Vermillion Parish had any substantial wind impacts. The surge impacts were widespread, but most people know they're prone to that. The problem was the people who left in Lafayette and New Iberia who felt like they were duped, or the people who stayed and now think they've ridden out a hurricane.
Lili weakened from a cat 4 to a cat 1 overnight. Our intensity modeling was pretty arse back then and we didn’t have them all over the internet for people to check so people saw cat 4 and bailed. People needed to leave because it it made landfall as a cat 4 it would have been really bad. That part of the state didn’t have a storm that strong coming towards it since Andrew in 92 so that also spooked a lot of people to evacuate.

Why are some of you so upset about a little context here and there?
Much like stout, you spent a couple pages yesterday trying to call me out on a post that was 100% factual. I supposed you have nothing better to do again this evening.

What is GFS?
It's one of the primary computer models forecasters use for weather. It is the American model and forecasts weather for the entire globe out past two weeks. It's short for Global Forecasting System.

IIRC, Lili was the first time "dry air" became a mainstream talking point. It eroded right at landfall due to a pocket that it gulped up.

lol... I was right, and it was you that went into research mode.
Look, the point we’re all trying to make here, is that you don’t have to post as if you’re an expert on every subject someone brings up.
Nobody here is looking to you for answers, so stop trying to be a hero.

Not exactly germane to the discussion, but hey, you win some, you lose some.

I was a sheriff's deputy in St. Martin parish when Lili hit La in 2002. ALL sheriff's office employees were required to be at SMPCC Jail I for that storm. If Lili hadn't weakened as much as it did prior to landfall, FEMA had informed Sheriff Fuselier that he didn't have enough body bags. They were expecting storm surge water to reach I-10.

Since we’re all trying to show how smart we are right now I’d like to say any time I post about historical weather events the details are off the cuff and without looking anything up.
