Climber Stand vs. Hang On w/ Stick Steps

I have a climber, but my hunting buddies suggest I switch to a Hang On stand with stick steps.
Help me decide on what I should do.

If you move stands alot then i recommend that you use a climber
If you don’t move it often, then i recommend a lock on.
That being said, Millenium M100 is one of the most comfortable stands to be in, i can hunt all day in it.

I think your first consideration should be the type of trees in your hunt area. If you're hunting the piney woods, a climber is great. No so much in the Midwest.

I personally hate using climbers. Lock on's are super easy to set up and move.
Get you a nice set of Hawk Helium sticks too

Or you could saddle route.
I went from climbers, to lock on, to saddle. I moved from climber to lock on so I could hang in any tree. I moved from lock on to saddle to save weight.

I hunted all last year from a saddle and absolutely love it. I won't be going away from it but I understand other people are somewhat intimidated by the idea of hunting that way

I use a few of each. I have a summit viper SD for comfort and rifle season. I use a Lone Wolf Hand Climber during bow season if there are decent trees in the area. I have a Millenium M7 Microlite with Muddy pro sticks that I use when hunting in an area where I want to climb in to heavy cover.
My favorite stand by far is the Lone Wolf hand climber. It's super quiet, light, and quick to set up and climb with. If I bought a lock on again it would probably be a lone wolf. The cast aluminum platforms are dead quiet compared to the hollow aluminum some manufacturers use.

Same here. Now, the last week of the season I hunted my private lease and just went back to my summit titan.....they are comfy. But not fun to walk
2-4mi in with one on your back

Lone wolf assault with 4 sticks and a lineman’s rope. Light fast and silent.
I can be up a tree in less than 10 min as silent as a mouse.
Climbers are bulky, clunky, loud, heavy and an all around pain in the arse.
Good luck climbing a tree within 100 yds of a buck bed in a climber and not blowing every deer out of there

All depends on what type of trees you can hunt. Are they straight and few limbs, crooked, loose bark, very hard wood. I use both depending on the woods.

Climber gives you a whole lot of options in the South.

If you have a lot of trees that are like phone poles a climber works.
I got frustrated starting out with climbers and hunting areas with trees which are fat at the bottom that taper off.
Switched to a lock on and sticks then to saddle a few seasons ago.

People who say climbers are loud and clunky have never used a Lone Wolf hand climber. Best thing since sliced bread in the South on public land. Light, folds flat and no wider than my shoulders. Never used a tree saddle but i know a lot of people that both love them and hate them. If you’re staying in one place, a millennium lock on is hard to beat.

I agree. My favorite for sure. Although I really like my lw assault with 4 lw sticks that I cut down to 2 double steps each with an aider

I know for a fact that I can get in a tree a lot quicker and quieter with a lock on and sticks than I could with a climber. Once you figure out a routine with how to hang your lock on and sticks its super simple and way more quiet to hang than climbing with a climber. Even better that you can hunt just about any tree versus having ot hunt for a straight limbless tree for a climber. The saddle option just takes that even farther

This. The belts and cast platform are super quiet. I've been practicing and timing myself, up the tree and ready to hunt in under 5 minutes. My lock on/stick setup weighs about 27 lbs. The hand climber is under 15.

It took me longer at first too. It does take practice and to figure out a routine. Now I can hang my sticks and an Assault in a lot shorter time than I can hang a climber on a tree and climb.

I personally like a fixed. I can’t climb like I used to. But a climber allows you to move into areas where you see a lot of signs. Also allows you to go as high as you need.
