We, it is kinda lip service. Juveniles cannot receive life with no chance of parole.

Not with the details of that case and that DA.
Yes, you are 110% correct there. But I'm sure he was grasping at any conceivable hope he might have to get out of it. He should have just tried to go on the run

Good info. Seems though like there is grounds for further action in those cases.

Any of you have contact info to Garrett’s family? I want to ask them if I can have all his Perlis clothes since he won’t be needing it anymore

I believe someone said in here that his parents put up their house and maybe his grandmother too. Guess he'd have had to screw over his family to run.

The defense was pushing for a plea deal which would have resulted in him going to prison until it was rejected. I don’t know where you are getting all these direct quotes and information about possibly paying people off but it’s very imaginative

I'll just say that Ken and I have some mutual friends. Their hope was that he could make a cash "donation" and insurance would pay the family and Garrett (with no criminal history) would walk. Might be hearsay, but it comes from a reliable source.

Bail in residing parishes is determined by Posted Bail Schedules, in this case, Orleans Parish, which are predetermined amounts for specific crimes that vary from one jurisdiction to the next. After that, what's taken into account is the severity of the crime, ties to the community, criminal record, outstanding warrants, probability of making court dates, flight risk, and risk to public safety.
Historically, in Orleans Parish you see $500K for someone awaiting adjudication in Orleans Parish for 2nd degree murder. Potentially, Wards family had enough cash to pay the bond in full to avoid the $80K+ bondsman’s fee. Ward seems to come from a upper, middle class family. If the family put up their property and Ward would have fled, yeah, that would have been hell for the family.

Not a bad plan until the family realizes they have you over the barrel and asks for more money, you balk, and then they run to the DA saying no on the plea deal. Timeline matches up with other info in the thread about him going to the courthouse to plead only to learn it was off the table

Yeah even facing 40 years I couldn't do that to my parents or grandparents when they were alive.

I don't remember the exact numbers for the various surety bonds but his bail was $1 million. A little over $800k was in a commercial bond and the remaining ~$170k was from two property surety bonds from two women with the last name Thibodaux. I assume that GW and his parents paid the $80 plus grand for the commercial bond.

Apparently the original plea deal talks fell apart because Ward & his family felt that he could/would eventually get off without having to do any time. That plan didn't work out too well.
No that was the victims family that went to the DA and asked for a trial per some old news articles

I’d imagine Ward’s attorney fees were

Don't believe everything you read.
It's possible that they did, but there was more to it than that.
