(1) A master or individual in charge of a vessel shall render assistance to any individual found at sea in danger of being lost, so far as the master or individual in charge can do so without serious danger to the master’s or individual’s vessel or individuals on board.
1000 dollar max fine

Supposedly a thru hull fitting failed.
It is ridiculous that still in 2020 boats come equipped with plastic thru hulls.
It should be illegal to build any boat without seacocks and easy bilge access.

I'm not sure what you're on lately, but kindly go back to the OT or soccer board where you belong.

I don’t think that guy is a charter captain in Louisiana. That boat is a tub compared to most offshore charter boats.

Still hoping to hear more details of the rescue.
Obviously the supposed non-responder could be guilty, but also could have done the right thing by staying out of the way.
Too many props and hulls and human heads bobbing in water could be catastrophic also.

Looked around on FB and it seems to me he slow-played the circumstances and when the Contender showed up, he had his opportunity to bolt.
He mentions being cleared by the coat guard, but that is likely due to only him and his crew’s accounts. If they clear him after all statements are made, then the issue is resolved IMHO.
Thing is, those situations are highly emotional and mixed with social media leads to a toxic situation.

I'm ordering some. Never heard of them previously.
Great. Like I said, those are old school must haves on a boat.

Did you just call a 31 bertram a "tub"?

You can blame the lack of safety standards in the recreational boat industry. Level flotation is not required on boats over 20’ not to mention these boast should be designed with a common sea chest arrangement that is easily accessible and has shut off valves on each line. On my old world cat there is almost no way you could get to the through hull connections much less in an emergency situation.

It's insane how shitty boats are built now, especially considering their price.
My 23 kenner has shitty plastic thruhulls with nearly zero bilge access. I had an aerator pump discharge break off before and nearly sank the damn thing in blind river.
CHECK YOUR THRU HULLS. Many people dont realize that if your livewell pump hose comes off, you're sinking. That shite is important.

I dont see anything wrong with questioning the maintenance on the sunk boat

Same thing happened to my Kenner. Twice.

Replaced mine with nylon and double clamped, also ditched pumps. Five gallon bucket does double duty as a crapper.
If the captain didn’t respond his card should be revoked.

I'm commenting on the mob mentality that goes after one guy but not the captain of the sunk ship.
Making a mistake, and intentionally not helping people who are suffering are orders of magnitude different.

Regardless is he was a charter guy or not he should have rendered assistance if he was around. I couldn’t imagine going down and seeing someone on the horizon ignoring me.

I know Brett through mutual acquaintances. He’s not running charters, don’t know why everyone is calling him a charter captain.
His story is the folks on the sinking boat refused help because they wanted to stay with the boat.
My guess is both their stories are a little off and the truth is somewhere in the middle
