New proclamation coming in a week and it may very well include gyms having to close.

wwl.radio.com

quote:

Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards says he will consider new White House guidelines that may mean tighter COVID-19 restrictions in Louisiana. The recommendations call for "red zone" states like Louisiana to close gyms, put tighter restrictions on indoor dining capacity to 25 percent, and limit gatherings to ten people.

Edwards has closely followed the White House guidance, despite push back from some Republicans at the state level over restrictions. Edwards says any mandates will come on the next proclamation.

"We are mindful that we have a current proclaimation that is set to expire on July 26, and there will be a new proclaimation issued in order to take its spot. I cannot commit today what will be in that one that comes on the 26th," said Edwards.

I don't think small gyms can withstand another closure. Would be catastrophic for them.

frick, catastrophic for my mental health. I need the gym.

Have you ever found rings? Time to seriously look at home exercises. Stupid things like squating an 8qt pot filled with water till it hurts or more rational things like diamond pushups.

shite I've been slacking this week, but I have my own rack so no excuse.

I doubt many gyms will follow the order.

No, I never looked for rings. I don't really have anywhere to put much gym equipment in my house. 1535 sq ft with carport, not a garage, small shed in the back yard.

I could probably squeeze a bench and adjustable DBs in my office, or set up a rack that folds under the carport, but that's about it. And we're probably moving within the next 6 months so I really don't want to cause any more damage then I have to.

Eta

Probably will get these bands and this jump rope

I know some gyms won’t follow the order because I personally know of two that didn’t the first go around.

Makes no fricking sense. If anything should be open it should be a gym. If its true that we're all gonna get this shite at some point then let's at least be as healthy as possible when it comes

But, can i still stand in line at Trader Joes to get my brookies?!? And what about McDonalds, they still open? I need to stay healthy eating my Mcdonalds, nothing healthier than a good menthol cigarette to finish up a supersized big mac combo (diet coke - watching my weight)

I thinking more along the lines of chair dips. Using things already around the house for exercise.

Static holds are very hard. I hate body weight exercises but that may need to happen.

Well if they do have to close, our gym will probably give us body weight workouts. They did last time. And I did them for a while, but after a while I just lost any desire to do that.

We'll see what happens. Maybe he'll just mandate lower occupancy or something.

Its coming. And its going to suck. Weather sucks now, unlike April/May.

Guess I'll just have to suck it up though

I just went to Costco. And went to home Depot earlier this week. Those places are constantly packed to the gills, and yet they want to shut down gyms. I get that we can't shut down grocery stores, but there's got to be a better way to do that.

If this happens then I and a lot of other gym owners probably won't be able to recover.
Its easy to say that we could just defy the order and stay open, but this whole thing has already significantly hurt membership and attendance numbers. Another shutdown will just cause more fear from those members who were just starting to feel more comfortable about working out in the gym again.
Staying open means that bills and overhead will still be near 100% but revenue will drop even more than it already has.
This whole situation really sucks.

100% rainman. I already know 3 snaps, 2 ymcas, a massage studio and a yoga studio that closed last time. This time with no PPP, no stimulus check, and PUI ending it will be devastating.

It doesn't make sense to me to change right now because we will not know if the mask mandate is working.

Here in GA, we are still open and I hope Kemp doesn’t shut it down again. The first shutdown, our gym continued to post workouts but geared towards body weight exercises also. One thing he did was let members grab equipment and take it home on a first-come basis. But only let them take one KB, or one barbell, one Echo bike or rower, etc. I’m fortunate that I have all of that at home

I have an irrational raging anger over this, and I know I shouldn’t, I have expected it. We gonna shut down gyms when the fricking data they released shows gyms only accounted for 3 out breaks and 26 cases in July so far. Insane. Makes no sense
