re: Benefits of work from home

I'm still working from the office, but we have moved a lot of meetings online, which is great because I can mute and multitask through the things that don't concern me.
I feel like even that small change has increased productivity.

They didn’t hook you up with a rona rig?

Because we moved cities but I stayed with my job, I've been working remote full-time since last November. I felt like a black sheep as I was the only one in my company, but that's obviously changed.
Leadership has acknowledged that upon "return to normal", most employees will opt for some mix: spend a couple of days in the office, the rest WFH.
The benefits I've noticed:
- I can get routine chores done during the day (laundry, etc.) that would otherwise occupy my free time after work and on the weekends
- I can actually go to the gym in the morning or during lunch without having to rush to shower and get in a car to get to the office
- I've gained back, minimally, three hours to each of my days. I would spend 20-30 minutes commuting each way in the morning/evening. And then when in the office, would lose AT LEAST 1-2 hours with worthless distractions. So instead of having to get up at 6:45 to shower, eat, drive to the office and not get home until after 6, I'm now waking up at 7:30, online by 8 and usually done most days with my work by 3 or 4.
Unless push really comes to shove, I have no intent of ever taking another job that will require me to spend the majority of time in an office setting. I can handle a couple of days per week just to break up the monotony. But I think COVID has really shown most people how completely ridiculous the notion of "arse in seat" really is.

Hangovers are much easier to deal with.

No commute is the best benefit. But I was already working from home a fair amount before this hit. Now my department isn't even allowed to go back in.
I liked being able to go to the office when I want and just focus on work. Hard to do at home with dogs and other distractions. I prefer a balance of office and WFH.

During meetings you can do the TV anchor trick.

Ours has really exacerbated the whole 80% of the work is done by 20% of the people.
It’s better now, but it was rough start.

My wife and I both work from home. Lunch time booty is always nice. So is cracking open a beer at 3:00.

I did it for a week and hated it.

I agree with all the advantages stated by the other posters to this thread.
The only disadvantage that I have seen but that no one else has posted about is that, by working form home, I find it harder to "turn off the work button". The drive home from work pre-COVID was a good time to decompress, shift to "home mode" frame of mind. Now I feel I'm at work 24/7, harder to rest my mind about work items in the evenings/weekends.

As others have pointed out, I miss the two large monitors. But on balance it's working out better than I expected. Commute and dress code are obviously best of all.

You can get a nice one for about $120.

If you are going to be doing it for awhile buy two monitors and a docking station.
I've always worked from home occasionally so I made my home office as comfortable as my work one.

It’s quite awesome if one’s home situation can accommodate it. Damn glad mine does.

a good pair of noise canceling headphones was a lifesaver for me

Back when I worked from home, my home office post-lunch was quite often the local bar. That was definitely a benefit.
