There's something endemic which is immediately extrapolable?
It's a serious question, I'm not being adick.
I’m going to just assume you mean “can be extrapolated”.
All hospitals have policies and procedures for situations like this, and while they may not be identical, they will be very similar.

A federal guideline, typically adhered to, correct?
Comfort and alarm are concepts which are applied, based upon population, nothing more?

Hence the quote marks. If you’re fat and sickly and need what would normally be deemed “elective” you bet your arse is getting sent to ICU for observation
Good Lord some of you people are stupid

If you want to keep believing that hospitals in different states have drastically different capacity and surge capacity policies and procedures, be my guest.
Just make sure your bunker is well stocked for the impending flu-pocalypse.

I just saw this on the news here in central MS...the story was immediately followed by a story about how they plan to start school a little over 3 weeks from now

Did you miss the part where “every hospital” tries to run I. The 80-90% ICU capacity all the time.
They are likely out of tier 1 ICU beds but can flex space to make more capacity.

FFS. it's a federal thing based upon population, is what you mean to say. Correct?

We need to quarantine all the fat people and old people so they can stop filling up the hospitals from getting Covid. Those selfish assholes are ruining it for everyone else.

Maybe they should have put it in MS...
I guess it would have done just as much good, but why would you think Texas should send millions of dollars to Mississippi?

Doesn’t matter what everyone else or “news” has to say. I only listen to Donald John Trump

It was incredibly laid back out there for the fourth.

nobody goes to ICU for elective procedure
My wife had benign liver growth.
Had it removed.
Was in ICU without any complications.
"Elective" can mean "necessary, but not critical".
I'm sure many such procedures going on nowadays because of shutdown.

Very true. I work in the ED at the OLOL in Baton Rouge and noticed last week we were accepting transfers from Hospitals I had to google to see where they were. Now our hospital is full too and do not have beds for our own patients.

We've only had 3-5 per week which is normal no matter the year or conflict.
Whose we? Jackson had about 8 shootings and a deadly stabbing from Saturday to Monday. I think 4 were fatal, so I guess that helps.

How about: Don't care.
It's no longer a debate, people have been caught stone cold LYING about the numbers, the severity, how contagious, the mortality rate and almost EVERY metric associated with this not-really-a-pandemic.
At this point, anyone believing the "experts" or "sources" is simply a fool.
Let the fking thing run its course, let it cull those it will.....people die every day, it's time to start living for those of us who refuse to bend the knee.

Time to shut down again. There is no other solution

We cannot lock down until we find a better, effective, non-harmful vaccine. That will take years.
We need to make policies to protect those Mose vulnerable and let people make their own decisions.

Hospitals are in the business to make money... they're not going to have an ICU and only keep it at 25% capacity. They'll either find reasons to keep it full due premium billing to insurance, OR they'll open it up for another function for the hospital to use. Empty beds do not generate money.
The ICU capacity bullshite is getting old. Anyone with a functioning brain should be able to understand ICU occupancy.
