Dumb post but I'm bored. Dear Facebook.

My son's 17th birthday just passed and I was telling him about how cool it was back in the day to have birthday parties at Showbiz Pizza, McDonalds, Burger King, Putt Putt Golf, Don Carters, and Fun Fair Park. He kind of laughed about the idea of having parties at McDonalds and Burger King. So it got me thinking...what in the hell happened to those places? They're so freakin' depressing now. I remember when the birthday parties were fun, you got good happy meal toys, and in general it was fun to go to those places. Going into one of now is like spending time in purgatory.

I have pictures from my childhood of birthday parties at McDonald’s. If you did that nowadays the OT would call you poor as frick.

It began declining long ago when needles were being reported in the ball pits... not sure if that’s urban legend, but that’s about the time I recall the playgrounds slowly being ahutdown.

Can explain just about every reason why fun has been sucked out of almost every aspect of our lives.

I think we were all poor then. If you think back to the 80s everyone was lower middle class.

Where did all the money come from these days? Everyone has much nicer cars and houses and spends 10x what we used to in restaurants. I don't understand what happened.

Or maybe we were just poor.

I'm not sure how old you are, but back in my day we didn't go eat fast food that often. So when I got to go to McDonalds or Burger King it was awesome. Nowadays, kids go there all the time. It has no luster anymore.

That and all the nasty snot, shite, etc. that were all over those ball pits. Fast food playgrounds were basically Wuhan street markets.

McDonalds feels like a sticky plastic shite hole. I wouldn't want my kids to touch anything in their playland.

Chick Fil A is the best place to take kids. Their play areas are much cleaner. Kids seem to have more fun. The whole place feels less plastic.

McDonalds reacted to higher wage push and are automating as much as they can. New places are lifeless and sterile.

Burger King. Tired brand that started trying to push meatless burgers.

Showbiz Pizza, a bowling alley or an amusements focused business had/will have crew-members dedicated to wearing the costumes.

A B-Day party at BK or McD's means the manager grabs one of the folks out of the kitchen flipping burgers, puts'm in a clown-suit and he goes terrorize the children for 15 minutes while the orders start backing up and the manager calls'm back into the kitchen.
