The only "benefit" they will get out of this is a slower exodus of sponsors. If they publicly refused to do it, the sponsors would leave in droves. The problem is, this will only delay the sponsor drops because the viewership and fan base will dwindle which will cause a loss of interest by sponsors.
If this would have happened back 30 years ago, it would not have been near as devastating. Most sponsor were either local, motorsport related, or so attached to NASCAR that they wouldn't care. Today, the money required to put a competitive car and driver on the track is way to much to survive without major corporate sponsors.
The only positive I can see out of this is that MAYBE NASCAR can somehow return to the grassroots type setting and survive on a smaller scale.

I have no love lost for the Confederate flag, it is a symbol of the greedy planters who made themselves rich by buying cheap labor from Africa. They got wealthy, got the politicians to support them and dragged the country through a Civil War, less than 5% of Southerners owned slaves.
Now, due to their greed, we have millions of people who's ancestors, didn't want to be here, this is resulting in hundreds of years of social problems, it takes a long time to assimilate people who didn't brought against their will.
