From a business perspective it seems to be an act of cutting off their nose to spite their face. Sure, they have taken the moral high ground. But they have to know their core fanbase is, and always has been, rednecks

NASCAR is in huge trouble anyway I think, maybe they're just saying if this kills us it was going to happen anyway, but maybe there's a chance it opens us up to new fans.
I really have no idea, but I agree their base will hate this shite.
