I stand corrected

quote:

Trail Ridge Road is the highest continuous paved road in the United States, reaching an elevation of 12,183 feet.

I guess "continuous" means it goes from point A to point B, rather than up the mountain and back down.

Mount evans road goes up over 14,000 feet!

Not as majestic of terrain as the ones that have been already mentioned, but for a local riad, I always like the scenery on Hwy 1 between Golden Meadow and Grand Isle.

I love hitting the mountain roads. The Ozarks and Smoky Mountains are very similar with lots of tight, twisty roads, hairpin turns, etc. whereas the Rockies are full of nice roads with wide sweepers where you can make some time running through them and enjoy the scenery a bit more since you don't have to pay real close attention to the road as much.

My "Bucket List" ride is riding the entirety of the Pacific Coast Highway.

Oh, and if you really want to ride a challenging road on a motorcycle, look no further than "The Tail Of The Dragon" in Deal's Gap. There's 318 turns in 11 miles of mountain roads.

Oh, and all this, with the exception of the PCH has been done several times on my motorcycle, never in a 4 wheel vehicle. Two wheels is my preferred way of travel to these places.

My wife an I have driven almost every mountain pass in Colorado including Trail Ridge Road and they all are magnificent. We have also discovered a few dirt road rides through the mountains. In Utah the Devils Backbonre. Beartooth Highway is probably the best as it goes into a Yellowstone. South Dakota don’t miss The Needles near Mt Rushmore.

I’ll add The Pig Trail and The Arkansas Dragon. Both fantastic roads in Arkansas through the Ozarks.
Beautiful in the Fall.

This is deja vu. There was a post about this a month or so ago. And my answer is the same. The Ring Road in Iceland. Especially the eastern side when you start to see the ice caps. Stunning scenery essentially all the way around.

Whenever a boss or coworker from another state rides with me they can’t believe I have to cross that bridge to get to Baton Rouge. Their mind is blown by how long the bridge is and how beautiful the swamp is. Same thing when I cross Lake Pontchartrain.

I agree with them...the first time I remember crossing it I was about 6 years old going from Houston to Atlanta...right at day light....it was the most beautiful thing I ever saw...I have been in love with swamps and marshes ever since. My wife and kids think I am nuts LOL...but if you can't appreciate the beauty in a swamp, let alone the diversity of life, there is something wrong with you.

Beartooth Highway
Overseas Highway
Blue Ridge Parkway
Black Hills scenic loop
Snowy Range Parkway

I drove the Dragon Tail once. I was looking at a map and it was a way I had never been before. Had no idea it was a favorite of bikers and sports car enthusiasts. I was in a Tundra. They were probably cussing me.
