Accurate shot to the heart will leave a large game animal nearly unaware of what happened. It will wander a bit aimlessly, grow weak, and eventually fall over due to quick blood loss from the punctured heart. There is - considering it is being hunted and killed by a predator - very little suffering on the part of the animal.

You have to hack the thing to death. Slice it's neck open IF YOU CATCH IT. Which means you're setting traps. And when it's trapped, it's going to be terrified. Thrashing about. Struggling. Willing to attack the hunter as he approaches.
I imagine the hunter will take his time waiting on the now-crazy-with-fear animal tiring itself out. Or maybe the hunter has a way of trapping the animal completely: grabbing its legs and wrapping them; sealing its jaw shut; tying down any antlers that may be swung.
Either way, this is a rather disgusting scene that will end with the hunter inflicting a tremendous amount of pain as the scythe slices through thick hide and fat.
I hope they depict the reality of this with their new fricking LOONEY tune.

Well, Yosemite Sam must not even exist anymore, the guns were kinda essential to his character. I guess he is going the way of Slowpoke Rodriguez.
