Let me answer your question with a question. Why are double-blinded studies important?
So when this Ford study comes back in a month or two, can we finally put this to bed?

edit: sorry this is for prophylactic use so not exactly the same thing.

WaPo did what it always does. Its headline doesn't match its contents once you get to the shite they buried more than a dozen paragraphs down.
The drug is currently FDA approved. Doctors prescribe it. The end.
Also, you'll ignore it, but the "analysis" didn't control for initial condition.
The people in the analysis ON the drug STARTED OFF in worse shape than the people in the analysis that were NOT on the drug.
ALSO. Buried in the story are THESE quotes.
quote:
The new study’s findings cannot necessarily be extrapolated to people with mild illness at home or those, like Trump, who are taking the antimalarials as a prophylactic.
quote:
A large study of health-care workers that examines the use of hydroxychloroquine as a preventive measure against covid-19 is in the works, but no results have been released.
quote:
Evidence of any benefit, such as viral clearance or improved symptoms, has been almost nonexistent.
This one is amusing because there's another way to write the phrase "almost non-existent". Do you need me to hold your hand?
quote:
Earlier this month, some proponents of hydroxychloroquine seized on a study out of New York University’s Langone Health center that threw zinc into the mix with hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin, and showed the treated group had a higher rate of survival. But researchers emphasized that it only showed that the combination had some promise
So, you CAN take it in COMBINATION?
quote:
Last week, the National Institutes of Health announced a clinical trial of 2,000 adults to determine if hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin could be used to treat coronavirus patients
quote:
Geoffrey Barnes, a cardiovascular specialist at the University of Michigan, said the study’s approach and its findings were “striking” in making the case that “the risk with these drugs is real.” However, he said that due to the enthusiasm some Americans have for the drug and the Lancet study’s findings, randomized trials are even more important.
Can I just point out that the very fact that various agencies are STILL doing trials indicates "THE EXPERTS" do NOT have a final answer on the subject despite what TigerMoronInDC seems to think?
OK. My boot is now so far up your arse, I'm somewhat concerned. And hell, I didn't even have to leave YOUR source to beat the shite out of your dumb asses

Again ya'll fail to understand what increased risk means.
No. We actually understand that phrase. And we understand that the patients who were prescribed HCQ were already at increased risk of mortality when they were prescribed HCQ than those who were not prescribed HCQ.
You’re the one who doesn’t understand the phrase.

When a double-blinded, peer-reviewed study shows that there is increased mortality, absolutely.

Antimalarial drug touted by Trump

“For those receiving hydroxychloroquine and an antibiotic — the cocktail endorsed by Trump — there was a 45 percent increased risk of death and a 411 percent increased risk of serious heart arrhythmias.”
Throwing out a quote without a link to the study taken from automatically eliminates you from any serious discussion.
Have you ever read a study in a critical fashion? Do you have any experience or training to do so? If not you are automatically eliminated from any serious discussion. In other words, you are simply trolling.

Do you ever feel bad about stealing from taxpayers? I know progressives have trouble feeling shame but I hope you are better than most.

Exactly
Like the whole world, until Trump mentioned it, had no opinion on the drug and then suddenly, THOUSANDS of MEDICAL DOCTORS started prescribing it because Trump said so.

The reason they started using it was because it showed some promise against SARS. Not one media member had a problem with them using it against SARS. fricking brain dead idiot morons.

You have been chewed up and spit out at this point. Call a time-out at least. Give some time back to the taxpayers and come back fresh so you can steal more. Just don’t come back to this thread. Try another muh Russian asset thread. Those are funnier.

It's not often that one of these morons comes in here citing WaPo and, to completely OBLITERATE them, all you have to do is USE THE WAPO story!
WaPo kicked its own fricking arse.

Trump’s love affair with this drug is straight up stupid and will be a major campaign issue berating his anti-science judgement combined with injecting Clorox. WTF?. He should be pimping the Gilead drug - Remdesiver -which is flourishing in trials.
