I'm starting to pick up chatter on social media about a coronavirus second wave coming later this summer or fall. It's a narrative being pushed by the same people who want the shutdown of life to continue. They are salivating at the prospect of closing schools again. The only way to stop this nonsense in its tracks is by developing herd immunity quickly.

Of course people will get sick.

It's a matter of healthy people getting sick instead of the frail.

The second wave theory suggests it won't come until the winter

And that's not from "chatter on social media"

And a second wave in the winter is precisely why we don't want to keep things shut down because that coincides with the flu season. The more people that are infected now as opposed to then, the better.

My uncle was on the second wave at Iwo Jima, so I guess if I get on this second wave I am his equal. finally.

Schools are already preparing for a cycle of limited openings and closures. This has been pretty well established. Elementary schools are going to be opening more often, apparently, with high schools and universities and colleges looking to alter schedules to mitigate spread. But there's going to be a series of 'waves' and this has been apparent from other epidemics. Successful implementation of mitigation will make the spikes seem less dramatic but the impact on social distancing and other measures will probably be around for a while.

There will be increased cases as we re-open.. I've seen some people consider this a "2nd wave"... Gotta disagree on that

I do think it's a real possibility that we'll see another real wave in fall/winter, but there's really no way to know for sure.

The problem is that people hear "second wave," get on social media and theorize about it, abd before you know it, enough hysteria has been created to guide government and private decisions.

You've already surpassed your uncle's lame heroism. By staying at home you have fallen into the top 3 of heroes.

1. Covid nurses
2. Covid moms having to teach their kids at home
3. Everyone staying at home
4. 9/11 firefighters
5. Social media snitches who report offensive things.

See, your uncle fighting in war isn't even top 5. And if you participated in one of the rounds of applause to the Covid nurses you can go ahead and place yourself at 1 also. Thank you for your heroic bravery during this brave new normal.

It’s one continuous wave. Coronavirus isn’t going away. It’s time to open our economy back up. Not slowly. Not in stages, All of it now.

A second wave has been talked about by all the experts on tv for weeks. Fauci has been talking about it for weeks. All of the sports leagues have cited a second wave as problem in the fall.

I doubt people will buy into staying at home as they have for the last two months again. Until this virus starts killing kids and the young and healthy people will take it less and less serious.

To some extent, but I think the damage to the economy and lives will be more damaging if we shut down again.

And we should listen to them now bc they were so right about the first wave? Hint, there was no first wave. The whole point of staying home was to prevent hospitals from being overrun with covid patients. The hospitals are empty and in fact laying off employees. You seriously cannot make this stuff up.

The government is inept.

But they're not making decisions based on social media hysteria.
