Any of you guys tried smith optics for sight fishing or inshore fishing in general? It seems like a lot of the guides are using them.

There was just a big thread on sunglasses where people were talking about getting away from Costa since the warranty dropped to two years. Smith and Wiley were talked about a bunch in that thread I believe.

As an eye doc they are good glasses, you won't be disappointed. For now Maui Jim is still my go to but Smith and Wiley X are great Wiley X if you need an option to seal to keep the wind out/safety as well.

The chromapop lenses from Smith are pretty amazing. I highly recommend them for sight/shallow water fishing.

Prefer Smith to my Costas, they have a life time warranty also. I like glass lens, Smith's glass is lighter than Costas. Steep and Cheap typically has a good selection of the glass/spring temple.
NONE are worth list price IMO.

I've got two pairs.

Chromapop+ polycarbonate lenses in gold mirror (brown/amber lens)

Chromapop glass lenses in blue mirror (gray)

I liked the poly lenses for inshore with two minor complaints. They smudge easily and aren't very easy to clean, and there was a little too much light transmission for blue bird skies (also my complaint with Maui brown lenses).

I've got some green mirror costa 580G lenses that I find too dark. The blue mirror glass lenses from Smith are a great happy medium. At home inshore or offshore and work well in most light conditions. I know that the brown tint is recommended for inshore, but I can see contrast just as well with the gray hue- or well enough that it won't be the difference between seeing or not seeing something on the bottom

They're the only ones I wear now. I'll hang on to my other pair of smiths for when I inevitably drop these, but I'll probably sell the costas

I've used them for going on 20 years now. I love them. Their warranty is 2nd to none.

My only complaint is I've used them for so long, my eyes have gone from non-prescription to prescription. When I had to warranty my last pair, they wouldn't let me go with a prescription model because "it's a different department". That only speaks to their CS (which is normally top notch) and not the quality of the product.

I had smiths and I loved them. Cool company and good looking glasses. The lens were just as good as costa's. Better than Nike and Ray Bans.

I got some ANSI rated ones for shooting. They are incredibly clear. I like them better than my Costas, but my dumb arse forgot them on my head when painting and got paint all over them.

Side question, anybody know how to safely remove paint without damaging the lenses?

I use Wiley x at work and at the house. I’ve been using them for several years with no complaints.

I bought a pair of Action Optics when I started fly fishing (1996). Smith bought Action Optics out mainly for the photochromic Techlite (glass) lens technology. I'm on my third pair of the Guide series, only paid for the first pair that I bought through Action Optics. Great warranty program and great lenses.

Maybe an automotive clay bar. Just make sure you lubricate well, probably with water, and lightly rub
