Million Dollar Highway......beautiful and scary as shite

I drove it at sundown after a long day, in my big truck camper. The person in front of me was a tourist going too slow and the locals behind me were riding my arse. It was so beautiful and yes terrifying. I want to drive it again in a regular vehicle! I was so frazzled by the time we got to Montrose we just slept at the Walmart.

Nicest Walmart and McDonald's in the country. Lol.

We had an interesting time on this one. We were about halfway back when there was a huge mudslide that blocked the road. We had to go all the way around the island......at night. My a-hole was puckered tight.

Unfortunately when we went there last June the middle section was still closed because of snow.

That is a very cool place. Did geology field camp in that area and was blown away by the beauty.

I can’t remember the name of the road (US 550 maybe?) between Durango and Silverton, Colorado is some of the most breathtakingly beautiful scenes you will ever see.

191 from Rock Springs, WY to Jackson Hole. Gets better as you go. It’s got that Western feel to it.

Hwy 1, Big Sur

I'll also add I-64 from Beckley, WV (junction with I-77) to Lexington, VA (junction with I-81). Some awesome mountain and forest scenery there.

WV in general is a beautiful state to drive through.

Pick a section of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

This. Went to Asheville a few years ago with the wife, and we spent a day hiking some trails and parks. We decided to take the scenic way back. This was October when we went, before all the wildfires in gatlinburg and surrounding areas. It was one of the coolest drives i ever took. We went down some mountain that seemed to zigzap endlessly for about 30 minutes. The orange, yellow, and red colors from the leaves in the trees, and littering the road were dizzying, so much so that i had to stop the car for a second (probably combination of the colors and the zigzaging. At that time of year, the smokies are hard to beat. Here are a few pictures of the area (can't remember the name of the site).

I like to ride the Twisted Sisters , especially in the spring. A lot of nice breweries, wineries, BBQ to partake in . Nice cabins to rent , swimming holes , and dance halls .

Hwy 149 in Colorado was pretty damn memorable for me. I have to second Million dollar and Hwy 12 in Utah too. Man, I love it out there.

HWY 32 (devil's backbone) south of Wimberley, TX. It's not very long (>20 miles?) but it's a very beautiful drive. I'm sure it doesn't hold a candle to million dollar hwy or others mentioned here but it holds a special place in my heart.

I can remember that little park at Devil's Backbone from the mid 1980's on my way to eat at Smitty's. It sure was different then. There was no chain link fence there at that time.
What's with all the weird voodoo stuff stuck all along that fence?
As for scenic drives my vote goes for the road into the Chisos Basin in Big Bend National Park or the highway along the west coast of Lake Superior just south of the Canadian border.
