No one will know for a while when Sweden will reach herd immunity or what the cost will be in lives. We'll have to let it play out. But at least they recognize that this can't be eliminated and that herd immunity is the only way to get past it (while trying to do enough to protect their health care system).

We apparently think that if we just hide ling enough and do enough testing the virus can be contained. I think the only chance to win with that strategy was lost in Wuhan and that Sweden may have the better approach. We'll see. I wonder which country will be having concerts and sporting events this Fall.

Seems like every other day there's a new thread about Sweden either looking good or bad in the way they've handled it. Curious what we'll think of them in 6 months.

Generally speaking, Norway & Sweden (minus their ghettos) are as good as human civilization can get. Post-war Germany, the UK, and the Low Countries are up in there too.

But that’s not PC to say so please consider that I said something more PC if you are offended.

It has to be because those countries exploited other countries & peoples. Happy now?

90% of restaurants and theaters empty in Sweden. Completely healthy economy over there.

Even with the data frick up no articles ever said Sweden projected to reach herd immunity they said the city of Stockholm.

Unfortunately, we won't be able to judge until we have the benefit of hindsight. Noone here is prescient every one is just going on gut and or politics and both sides will claim their way would have worked best even with the benefit of hindsight.

I am comfortable with the phased reopening plan which gives time for states/areas to react if things don't go as planned.

Sweden has a super high death rate compare to countries with comparable infections. Is that part of the plan? Get the dying over with? Serious question, I just don’t really know much about the Sweden plan.

I'm very skeptical they've reached the threshold to reach herd immunity. Depending on the Ro of the disease (which I've seen varying figures for between 2 and 4), it would take between 50-70% of the country to have been exposed to the virus for them to reach herd immunity, and there would have to be no other methods of transmission other than through respiratory droplets (as in there cannot be an environmental component of transmission). The process of herd immunity, if it is even possible for this virus, is going to take time.

It's really incredible how the Karens and the doom and gloomers really want Sweden to fail. I realize they are a different nation with a different culture and different population dynamic. But come on. If you realize this, too, why do you want them to fail so badly?

The lengths you guys will go to to keep from admitting you were wrong and panicked about this BS is laughable. Just admit you're pussies and move on.

It takes a special kind of stupid to think that anything about Sweden is analogous to the US.

They only have 30 more deaths per 1 million more than we do and 1,000 fewer cases per 1 million than us.
