Louisiana is set to start doling out supercharged unemployment benefits of $600 more a week on Monday, providing the first wave of relief to a staggering number of residents seeking aid as the coronavirus rocks the state’s economy.

But as benefits begin flowing and officials project no part of Louisiana is on track to run out of hospital beds or ventilators in the coming 10 days, Gov. John Bel Edwards warned Wednesday it will be a long time before things return to normal.

In the meantime, as Louisiana’s stay-at-home order is set to keep thousands of businesses closed until at least April 30th, the Louisiana Workforce Commission will start paying out the extra $600-a-week benefit to unemployed Louisianans starting Monday, Edwards said.

If numbers are decreasing and no end of stay in place is seen; people will say frick it and either take to the street or do their own thing and open back up.

JBE going to arrest everyone?

Just LA, the 600 dollars per week did not make into the national bill did it?

So many people will make more money staying at home than going to work.

$600 divided by 40hr work week= $15/hr.

I would suspect anyone making less than that prior to the shutdown will stay out as long as possible.

It’s more than that. In Louisiana it’s 247 + 600. Many people will sit on their asses for that.

I would imagine unemployment checks would not be taxed, but I don’t know

A lot of people will be content to sit at home and take the $600 a week.

No one seems to acknowledge this fact. They just act like people will be rioting to get back to work. A lot of people are not going to be that way.

yeh, this is not good. SMB won’t be able to hire workers back with PPP even if they wanted to. 600/week to work zero hours or the same even more to work 40 hours.
