Honestly, I could see LA extending into and past Pensacola, possibly all the way to Destin.

There's a lot of the Who Dat Nation in Northwest Florida.

Once those fricking people (including Mobilians) came to understand that the only thing that makes South Louisiana at all interesting is New Orleans and it's easy attitudes about drinking and partying. They'd build a fricking wall to keep us out.

These people aren't getting into a cultural and political gutter simply because New Orleans doesn't have a last call. And make no mistake about it, from a regional tourism aspect, New Orleans doesn't bring anything else to the table. People along the coast drive here so they can get fricked up without being fricked with and that's pretty much it.

If not for the 1717 Hurricane
The capital of Louisiana would have stayed on Dauphin Island and not moved to New Orleans.

The hurricane was so bad it split the Island in half and made Petti Bois which is in Mississippi now

I've always thought £97 Diana should be southern Louisiana to Pensacola. Give North Louisiana to Arkansas. We have much more in common across the coast.

This is the truth. Mobile is like NOLA light ... very light. But more like Southern La. than Northern La. is. North La. should be split between Ar-kansas and Texas.

Southern Louisiana, the Mississippi Coast, and Mobile and Baldwin County should all be a state. Northern Louisiana can join Texas or Arkansas or Mississippi.

That's a rather poor counterfactual historic take on the decline in Alabama's historic role in the French Louisiana colony. There were multiple reasons New Orleans became capital of the French colony in Louisiana. A hurricane destroying Dauphin Island was not a significant one. The only reason Alabama had a major role in the early history of the Louisiana colony was due to the fact that Bienville's first explorations were in Alabama and d'Iberville wasn't smart enough to remember the high ground along the Mississippi he encountered at present day New Orleans when he sailed downriver to the mouth.

The real reasons New Orleans became capital of French Louisiana:

1. Bienville was given a land grant by the French King at the site of New Orleans. He had every reason to want a capital to succeed there.

2. New Orleans was the first protected area of high land on the Mississippi. The goal of the French, after all, was to connect the fur trading of the Great Lakes with the Gulf and the Atlantic. No where on the Alabama coast offered easy communication with the Canadian upperlands. New Orleans did.

3. New Orleans offered easy access to the Gulf through non-Mississippi routes via Bayous St. John and Savage.

Dauphin Island as a capital was a historical anomaly that had everything to do with temporary expediency. It was never intended to be a permanent capital. Hurricane or not, the capital of Louisiana always was going to find a home on the banks of the Mississippi River. The only question was would it be at New Orleans or where Bayou Manchac exited the Mississippi.

Scrap the Louisiana part, unless you're okay with the highest insurance rates in the country, horribly corrupt local and statewide government, and violent crime rates that make Mogadishu look safe.

Meh, no reason to landlock the two states. Ports are very useful for a state economy.

They are trashy so would fit in good with south Louisanna culture. I mean they are used to jean shorts and have those weird Bronx sounding accents. Just wish the females of Lafayette could be cloned.

You just wrote all that for nothing Hoss.

The real reason Bienville settled at Dauphin island and Mobile first was that the Spanish had Pensacola already on lockdown. He wanted to be over this way to take over their settlement. The British Caribbean Pirates and the first recorded hurricane(google it) of 1717 is what made the French pack up and leave.

That would have been a pretty interesting state to say the least. We'd have the panhandle, coastal Alabama and MS, the Northshore, BR etc.
