Do you speak French?

Are your ancestors Acadian? Were you taught about Acadia in school?
I’ve been fascinated with the story of the British expulsion of Acadians ever since I visited New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. The British have a long history of brutality in North America and the banishment of French settlers from Acadia seems like an almost forgotten bit of North American history. Is that true in Louisiana, too?

No, I speak American because this is America.

I took German for a few years throughout high school and college. Almost minored in it, but ended up not going the International Business route. Should've done Engineering, but I at least should've stuck to IB in the Business school.

No. My grandparents spoke it when my parents would leave us with them, and they wanted to talk about us, though.

Yes to both questions. My family traces its lineage to the Acadians in Nova Scotia. I’m the first generation in my family to grow up speaking English. My parents and older all spoke French.

what does any of this have to do with the original question?

Yes and no. I do. But I've had no one to speak it with for 3 or 4 years.
I would need a few hours with some Cajuns speaking at a Cajun pace to get my ear back.
Longer to get my words.
ETA:
There is no better language to laugh in than Cajun French.

I speak the kind of French that needs to be pardoned.

Non, mon ami. J'aime dormir seul.

My maternal Grandfather was from the New Roads area. He spoke Cajun French. Was not allowed to speak it in school. I took High School French, but can only find out where the bathroom and library are.

Je parle français. J'ai une petite baguette virile parce que je suis chinoise.
