Why is CDC Center for Disease Control in Atlanta?

Makes no sense. What pork barrel nonsense put something that vital away from DC our nation's capital. I know the idiocy of Johnson Space Center being in Houston is due to politics and in Huntsville having a rocket lab.

We should actually spread more vital government functions around the country, especially in today's age of instant communication. One attack on DC by an enemy would cripple us less if things were spread out.

Just makes sense in how we coordinate our government. If you want it out of Washington then put it in a place where people would want to live like Malibu, CA. Miami, FL. Santa Barbara, CA or even Myrtle Beach, SC.

This is a good thing. Maybe Trump should move the DOJ and FBI to Dallas, EPA to Denver, HUD to Little Rock and disperse other agencies around the country. Diversify DC.

I think Memphis was second choice, but Coca Cola got a deal for Emory to give them land on which to build and that was that.

It's next to Emory Univ Hospital. Haven't been out there in years, but it used to be a pretty ritzy part of town.

It was originally part of Emory University and just grew from there.

According to Wikipedia, it's first task was to deal with malaria. As malaria was endemic in the southern US, Atlanta (being a large city) was chosen.
