I would love to greatly pare down DC so that the NOVA progstains would disperse around the country possibly freeing Virginia from their stench.

Because he likes having all Depts of the government away from the real population of the USA, out of touch with reality and easily cross infected with liberalism.

I was thinking having them all in one place made it easier to lobby and buy government influence...

LMAO!Metro Atl is almost up to 6 million and counting and there's no shortage of people wanting to move and work here.

BTW the roots of the CDC go back to containing Malaria in the US and most of the cases were in the south at the time.Robert Woodruff (Coke CEO) donated the land at the time.

quote:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is the federal agency responsible for public health and is headquartered adjacent to the campus of Emory University. The agency’s origins are based in the effort to control malaria outbreaks around military bases in the United States during World War II. The Office of Malaria Control in War Areas was headquartered in Atlanta because the South had the most malaria transmission

Two main campuses now, about 5 miles apart.

The agency got it start as a malaria-prevention program tied directly to World War II training bases in the deep South (at a time when malaria was still prevalent in the deep South).

Over time, additional disease-related programs were simply grafted onto that existing organization.

Trump's move to deconsolidate is one of my favorite things he is doing (even if it disburses liberals into the hinterlands)

It was originally part of Emory University and just grew from there.

It actually started prior to being next to Emory.

The head of Coca-Cola made a deal with Emory: "sell" 15 acres to CDC for a token $10 (which was supposedly raised by 10 cent donations from all CDC employees). That's why CDC is now adjacent to Emory.

Please elaborate on this.

This ought to be good.

Malibu, CA. Santa Barbara, CA or even Myrtle Beach, SC

CDC has almost 15,000 employees and where exactly are they gonna live in Malibu or Santa Barbara?
and who the hell wants to live in Myrtle Beach?

I actually think everything outside of the three major branches should be located outside of DC.

We made laws about DC not being a state on purpose. Centralizing everything seems kinda afront to what the framers intended.

Or you could put it in a place with a transportation hub that can get you anywhere in the country or the world in short order, not to mention getting samples and other things in...

That was actually one of the factors. Other sites in the South were being considered, but Atlanta had an existing transportation hub. (And this was BEFORE the airport; having the world's busiest airport nearby has helped immensely in subsequent years)

I wish he would consolidate duplicate organizations/efforts, cut excess, then redistribute across the country...

Also, Atlanta is where BamaAtl is, and they wanted to make sure that they were close enough so that they could have access to her expertise on the disease known as gun violence.

Memphis was second choice. Atlanta was chosen because it was a transportation hub (and this was before the airport). The Emory/Coca-Cola deal came about a year later.

Personally I think more Departments need to be moved out of DC. In regards to National Security it makes no sense to have it all in one location. Department of the Interior for example should be out west somewhere or somewhere in middle America. Omaha for example would be ideal.

Well, they probably didn't intend for the government to be as big and far reaching as the one we find ourselves with today either...
