A New Orleans Police Department spokesperson said Sunday evening that multiple-unit floats that require generators to light them will be allowed to roll as is. Otherwise, tandem floats will need to be uncoupled during this year's parades.

Why allow this exemption?

Probably because people spent tons of money and can’t ride on a float with no power. The ban is dumb anyway.

They realized how terrible the marquis floats would look and how little thought was put towards actual safety

Because the floats aren’t wired to be broken apart and still light up. Kind of hard to have a night parade with no lights.

The generator lobby is still strong in New Orleans.

Apparently if the float has a generator, you can get run over and be ok.

My guess is they did not realize the cluster and safety issue that it would cause until they saw parades try to do this at night

Knee jerk reactions tend to lead to consequences that are not thought out

I know you’re joking but the non-lit floats pose greater danger. It’s like they completely forgot that lit floats keep people safer.

Then they saw how dark it was on the route tonight.

Orpheus with the flex perhaps?

If I'm Bacchus I reconnect those floats right now. On the route. Give the crowds a show and what they came for....

The smart Krewes will require every float be powered by generator.
