Trump needs to steal and weaponize "muh Russians" against them like he did with "fake news" in 2016. Just strait hijacked the play from them and made it his own shite posting strategy. Start endlessly hammering Bernie as a Russian asset. Makes sense doesn't it... i mean who else honeymoons to the USSR?

No, they probably leaked it because they don't trust their bosses to protect US elections.

The briefings themselves aren’t an issue. It’s the fricking selective leaking.
The circle jerk/fart sniffing relationship that exists between the average political reporter and beltway staffers is one of the largest contributors to all of these politically divisive issues.

The Russians are helping Bernie because they think he is the best opponent for Trump who they are REALLY helping.

Well, I mean in part candidates who are more likely to take Russian-friendly foreign policy. Like you say - realpolitik.
But not just that. They like to push divisive candidates independent of that too. They're trying in every way possible to undermine the legitimacy of democracy as it makes the Russian people more tolerant of interminable Putin chekism.
