It's a bunch of false outrage. The media didn't care one bit when some pretty awful countries preferred Obama.
I mean Russia isn't exactly benevolent but in the grand scheme of things I don't really care who they prefer in our elections. You would have to be retarded to simply vote for the other person based on that

Disinformation is simply an accelerant and most disinformation comes from local actors, not foreign governments. You've got Macedonian teens putting alarmism out there for credulous boomers to make a buck, not for any political purpose. It's a mess out there.
It's the modern infosphere that is allowing this to happen. When the printing press came out, Europe was torn apart & it's spread was way slower than tech connectivity and social media. Meanwhile, neoliberal economics is melting down simultaneously, so we're in some shite.
