I will also vouch for Slidell in the 1990s and early to mid 2000s. Tons of younger people lived there around this time. Like 3rd grade to high school aged young people. A bunch of kids.
It really did have yards and woods. Plenty of space to play any sport, shoot each other with paintball guns or fireworks, climb and build stuff, etc.

In the 60s and 70s Winnsboro was a nice place.

Sulphur in the 90s wasn’t too bad.
Probably a little larger than most small towns but still had small town feel. Only 1 high school, etc.

My son, 18 at the time and leaving for LSU, said "Living in Thibodaux is like Happy Days". My wife & I both thought that was a pretty strong compliment as far as raising a family. I mean, the Fonz was the town bad guy???

Believe it or not,Jennings was a pretty good place to live and grow up in the 70s-early 80s. But I sure as hell wouldn’t go back there now.
It’s still a decent small town where you can actually send your kids to public school
The JD 8 stuff made it look a lot worse than it is because all they talked to in the documentaries were drug dealers and crack whores

I am loyal (and maybe blind) to areas that I have lived, which is not a criteria to rank outstanding towns/cities to live in.
Back in the late 50s, 60s, and early 70s, Echo (a farming community on an intersection on Hwy 1 between Alexandria and Marksville) was a great spot for young hunters and fishermen. However, as a professional adult, I could never move back; plus, my wife (no pics available and she is a 65 year old grandma but still attractive) told me that while she loved my relatives, she would not want to live there. I also agreed.
So we now live in that nice community of Larose (in South Lafourche Parish) which is seeing population declines because of recent oil busts, threats of hurricanes, young college graduates not coming home, etc. While I would not recommend young people to move here, I love the area because of local fishing and hunting opportunities, very friendly people, excellent Cajun restaurants, ample seafood, etc.
Am I a sucker?

Isn’t that the original LSU campus? Wonder why they didn’t stay there
It closed during the war between the states. Reopened for a short time afterward until a fire destroyed the main building. Moved to Baton Rouge because there was vacant space available.
