The Air Force released an update to the “Dress and Personal Appearance of Air Force Personnel” code on Feb. 7, now permitting airmen to request a waiver to wear religious apparel while in uniform as long as they are “neat and conservative.”

In addition to religious apparel, members also can request permission to have unshorn beards and unshorn hair. If the length of the beard exceeds 2 inches, it must be “rolled an or tied” to meet the new standards.
The code has been updated to include hijabs, beards, turban or under-turban/patka, unshorn beards, unshorn hair, and indoor/outdoor head coverings.
The Air Force will be able to deny any request if it “furthers a compelling governmental interest.”

Hmmm, pretty soon it will be impossible to figure out what country's military these folks belong to.

Is the Air Force attracting Saudi radicals like the navy?

As long as this only applies to Sikhs, I'm ok with it. They're good people.

Wonder if they would let me wear a Klingon baldric for religious purposes?

Wish I’d thought of that when I was in. “Sorry sir, my beard and uncut hair are part of my religion. Please respect the diversity I bring to the service, it’s our strength.”

Considering the general opinion of the Air Force by the other services, I’m not sure how much this hurts them.

No one likes the Navy, Air Force, or Coast Guard.

Sikh people have been fighting against Muslims for centuries.

They were one of I think 3 groups classified as a 'warrior-race' by the British.
EDIT: The others were Scottish Highlanders, Maori of New Zealand, Gurkhas of modern day Nepal.

They have a complex history. In short, military service is in their blood and they take it very seriously. Would be a shame to miss out on their contributions to our armed forces

It’s the Air Force.

(Or, as my Army boy calls them, The Chair Force.)

McMilitary. Coast Guard, with wings.

I wonder if they’ll be able to wrap turbans on top of flight helmets. I think that would be a good look.

British Army has a long tradition of letting its Indian soldiers keep their beards and turbans.
