I dont give a shite if you want to wear a beard, a turban, or a hijab if you are willing to put your arse on the line for me and mine.

The problem is that the military DOES give a shite. Sometimes. “Uniform” has a real meaning, or at least it used to.

Yet we have a thread saying the AF is going to be ok with it.

So now that we removed that little hurdle, you are good to go? Seems some just carry a touch of prejudice.

Still does, you just don't agree with it.

Hell, I am sure some didn't like it when the mailman started wearing shorts. Guess what, the mail gets delivered.

Oh, and tattoos on soldiers? That was changed too. No one noticed a drop off in performance. But this one does, hmmmm.

Yes I do. I also don't see anyone worried about beards. Period, I don't care the why.

You have no idea what I'm saying and you've obviously never served. I'll try again:

Beards don't keep people from fighting well. Neither does long hair or nose piercings, yet those things are regulated. If the AF wants to allow beards, like the US Navy once did, no problem. The problem stems from having different standards and allowances for different people. If you don't understand that I can't help you, but your dumbass accusations of prejudice aren't part of my point.

I actually agree with this.

The idea of a uniform is to keep things... well, uniform, but this can be held in check by regulations for various situations and steady enforcement thereof.

The idea of regulations accomodating a Sikh or an operator having a beard doesnt bother me as long as it promotes the cohesiveness and presentation of the unit.

You just described two different things, though. "Relaxed grooming standards" aren't new, but they're part of the mission, not the person. If you're doing a job that allows that it doesn't follow you when you get a staff position at the Pentagon. These allowances are for the individual, not a mission set. That's a distinct difference.

And it leads to the inevitable, like this:
Norse heathens need beards too 'cause Vikings!

No one outside the Air Force takes the Air Force seriously as a military branch.

The only problem is that Sikhs can't shave and the gas mask won't seal.

Ok.

Would look pretty good with Class As.

They're for a group of people.

The difference is insignificant.
