Too bad QT didn't have the balls to have Polanski murdered instead. That would effectively changed the course of history and a young girl doesn't get raped several years later.

This is why you couldn't appreciate it. The Tate murder looms over the whole movie. I was really reluctant to see it knowing how it would end.
The alternate ending was a relief after 2 hours of dreading seeing a pregnant woman getting murdered on screen.

Given that Polonaski wasn’t in town during the murders, he would’ve had to tip his hand about the alternative history twist way earlier than you need to make it an effective plot device
I agree with where you are going with it, but there’s not really a way to make it work in the story

Tarantino wanted you to watch one scene so he made you sit through 2.5 hours of fluff.
That nails it.

To show as many closeups of Margot Robbie's feet as possible so QT has something to jack off to at night.
The best part of this movie was dirty feet and hot chicks with hairy pits.
Pretty much everything else was a frickin' yawner.

That's an excellent take I'd never considered.
Upvote forthwith.

I find it insane that there are people here unfamiliar with the Manson Murders. Some people just can’t be bothered to learn anything I guess.
The manson murders occurred last century. It's real old news and alot of twisted shite has happened since. shite that makes those murders look like child's play.
Historically, those murders aren't a big deal anymore and haven't been in a long time.
Also, if the movie was worth a shite, it wouldn't make a difference if people knew of the Manson family or not. A good movie is a good movie, no matter how unfamiliar you might be with the subject matter.
Hollywood just wasn't that good.

You could say the same about the Lindberg kidnapping back in the 80's but i still knew what it was. But you just proved the guys point

Chuckle to your heart's desire. I didn't "prove anyone's point".
Alot of people nowadays don't know jackshit about the linberg kidnapping but if they made another movie about it and it was good. No one would care if they were familiar with it or not.
Hollywood sucked, not because people were unfamiliar with the subject matter. It sucked because it was a bad movie.
If this movie was only for people who knew the history, then that makes it a pretty shitty and pretentious endeavor.

I think there’s a pretty direct correlation between people who didn’t really enjoy/get the movie and people who didn’t know a lot about the Manson murders....the knowledge of how that night ended in real life and what “Rex on the horsey” actually ends up doing just looms over the entire film. It makes the scene at Spahn ranch a million times more tense and I found myself wildly uncomfortable in the final 15 minutes before QT gave us the swerve.
Entirely correct, and why before I took my 22 year old daughter, 18 year old nephew and his 18 year old girlfriend, and my 16 year old nephew to the movie I made sure they read the Wikipedia entries on Spaghetti Westerns,Charles Manson, Sharon Tate, and the Tate-LoBianco murders. They were then able to understand and appreciate the movie.
In general, I really don't see how ANYONE can go see a historically-based movie without having a pretty firm grasp on the subject matter. You don't have to know all the details, but at least know the pertinent ones--like the fact that Sharon Tate was horribly murdered by the Manson Family while she was pregnant in 1969.
Then again, this is why you have the masses watching "surmised" history stuff (with conversations no one was privy to), like "The Crown" and "The Two Popes" and thinking hey, that's ACTUAL HISTORY I'm watching...

alternatively it could mean someone didn't get it because they were unfamiliar with the basic premise. You don't need to know all the details about the Manson family, I didn't know who Tex Watson was, but if you don't know that Sharon Tate was murdered then you don't get her purpose in this movie or the impact of the ending. Its an alternate history, know what was changed would help. You could still enjoy it not knowing that just like you could know who she was and not like it

So what you're saying is that in a roundabout way inglorious basterds ruined the movie for me. I can live with thay

How many fricking posts have you made about a movie you kept saying you had no interest in seeing? This is some of the most pathetic, try hard attention-whoring I've seen on this board.
Show us in your vagina where Tarantino touched you, you crying little bitch.

How do people not know about the Manson Family murders?

Oh and thanks for the attention. You're kind to provide it.
Now go frick your own mouth, weirdo.

Hear me out, but I think it’s simply QT’s version of a perfect world or righteous revisionist history—what really should have happened to the douchebag hippie murderers than what actually happened to Tate and her housemates. QT is delivering justice (really awesome, extreme justice) for these real wrongs through his movie, and even though it’s make-believe, it’s his way of rewriting history after the fact to punish wrongdoing and produce some sort of satisfaction. He did the same thing with Django and Basterds.

Because after the final fight scene all we have is LDC being invited to the house next door. Then the end. We never learn what alternate lives those who weren’t murdered would have lived.
Did you want an 8 hour movie?
