Joe Burrow plays extremely similar to Pat Mahomes except that Mahomes has generational arm talent.

I like the way Mahomes has a cannon arm but takes velocity off the ball when appropriate. Mahomes doesn't hit his receivers in stride as well as Burrow. It's amazing to watch a college QB that knows the skill and importance of hitting his receivers in stride.

quote:Even more disingenuous not to admit that Mahomes threw against shite Big-12 defenses (Burrow hung 7 pass TD's on the Okies D). And, Mahomes was 13-19 as a starting QB at Texas Tech.
It would be disingenuous to not admit that Burrow had NFL talent all around him while Mahomes had none.
Good NFL QB? Sure. Generational arm talent? Nah.

He isn’t throwing against shitty Big 12 defenses now.

I think The word Generational gets thrown around a lot, but Mahomes has a huge fricking arm, is very accurate and has good touché when he needs it. Playing against Big 12 defenses in college doesn’t really factor into that.
It’s a really ducking big arm, and it helps him make throws a lot of QBs can’t. Nope you can have that kind of arm talent and be a shitty QB. Jamarcus Russell could make every throw, throw with touch and all that. It was the brain his arm was attached to that was the issue.
So I’ll take Joe’s Arm and Brain over most QBs. But It’s dumb and unnecessary to try and knock down Mahomes who in 2 years as a starter won an MVP award and then a Super Bowl.

Mahomes had 2 TDs and 2 INTs against the 49ers. Good NFL QB? Yes. Best thing since sliced bread? No.

It’s objective
It’s like pitching 101 mph is 101 MPH no matter who the batter is.
You can also have a bad game with great arm talent.
The guy can throw a football a country mile against air or NFL teams defenders.

I'm not saying that Mahomes didn't throw against shitty defenses. I'm saying he threw against shitty defenses while playing with a bunch of shitty players.
I mean the second best player on offense his junior year was Jonathan Giles

This thread is a not-so-subtle Burrow bash. Unless you are admitting that Mahomes is NOT more skilled, overall, than Joe Burrow [I'll stipulate that Mahomes chooses to throw harder]

What
Mahomes ran a 4.8 at the combine. You think Burrow is going to run significantly faster than that?
So you think Patrick Mahomes is an astronomically far better QB relative to Joe Burrow and that Joe Burrow doesn't have a prayer in hell of being as good as Patrick Mahomes after a couple of years in the league. Okay, you're entitled to your very dumb opinion.
However, I think you are quite wrong. As when I watch both of them play, Burrow to me appears to be quite significantly faster relative to Mahomes. At least according to my eyes and it's quite noticeable as well, if not to your eyes, but to my eyes, Burrow is obviously faster and a little quicker relative to Mahomes
Furthermore, the throws I have watched Burrow make on the run this season were also more accurate relative to the throws I have watched Mahomes make on the run this season.
Moreover, I know Mahomes ran a 4.8 in the forty at the combine. However, Joe Burrow says he runs a 4.6 in the forty on a good day.
Indeed, I have heard him say exactly that on two separate occasions. Is not 4.6 significantly better than 4.8 in the forty? Maybe not in your book, but in my book it most definitely is and it's also quite noticeable on the field at least it is to me if not to you.
Anyway, don't take my word for it, here, go listen to Joe Burrow himself say it by clicking on the following link and fast-forwarding to the 5:30 mark on the video.
LINK
Just because Joe Burrow hasn't played a down in the NFL yet doesn't mean he won't be as good as Patrick Mahomes or even better. I happen to think he will be significantly better than Patrick Mahomes in the NFL. In fact, his college career at least was very significantly better than Patrick Mahome's college career. Not to mention that Joe Burrow is the projected first draft pick in this springs upcoming NFL draft. While Mahomes was the 10th pick in his draft.
Indeed, just cause someone has NFL experience doesn't automatically make them better. That's ridiculous.

Anyone else notice the similar playing styles Between these 2 QBs, incredible ability to extend plays and the accuracy while throwing on the run.
I felt the same way but I believe that it had to do with KC running a very similar offense. After watching Mahomes win it I said to myself that Burrow could do that too if he gets on a team with enough talent and coaches who follow that scheme or philosophy

Burrow is the Goat college QB. I'm not disputing that. But there are people in this thread that are thinking he's significantly better than the guy who won an NFL MVP one year and won his team a Super Bowl the next.

quote:Got a link to where I said anything close to this? All I said was that if I was making a team, I'd go with the guy who has proven he can succeed at the highest level over the guy with one great year in college. Even if it was the greatest year ever.

But yes, not wanting to say that Burrow will be significantly better than the guy who won an NFL MVP one year and a Super Bowl the next is a dumbass take.

If you think Burrow will be able to hold the ball and scramble in the NFL the way he did for us you’re in for a surprise. Burrow’s scrambling ability is a lot more Montana than Mahomes.

I was surprised that on ESPN radio Burrow said he expected to run around a 4.6 forty at the combine. That would be faster than I thought he was, but he is 6’4”, so maybe his stride is deceiving.

My point is that Trubisky was taken 2nd overal and Mahomes was 10th. Nobody knew Pat would be this damn good. Otherwise they would’ve taken Pat 2nd. If somebody told you three years ago that he would have a ring this year, so of you same idiots would be saying what you’re saying right now about Burrow. He could exceed everything Mahomes has done. Bottom line, you don’t know how good Joe will be but video evidence shows how similar their playing styles are

Burrow consistently made throws this year that Mahomes had difficulty with yesterday.

Just saw on a pre-draft website he’s projected at 4.83. But like you said he’s a strider not a quick footed guy so his speed comes after a few steps. The point I was making is that he won’t have 6-8 seconds to drift and extend plays like he did for us in the NFL. His scrambles will come mostly up the middle when holes open. He’s not gonna roll outside and beat teams to the corner the way Mahomes can. He’s mobile enough and he knows when to take off. Like always Burrows weapons are mostly between his ears but for a QB that puts him ahead of even most NFL guys.

It’s almost as if Mahommes was playing against a better defense than a college QB normally does.
