When I was in Vietnam last year I really wanted a mask because of the ridiculous exhaust from all the scooters.
Pollution is horrible in Asia and they get used to wearing them.

Saw several in the airport. I assume they were sick and trying not to infect others.

I live in California, work at a tech company. We have folks from nearly every country in Asia, nobody is wearing masks yet.
Maybe in the OC but not here in L.A. They are everywhere

I'm wearing one right now. I have a pretty good suspicion that some of you bastards are carriers.
I'm rocking this bad boy. Protection from Ammonia, Chlorine, Chlorine Dioxide, Formaldehyde, Hydrogen Chloride, Hydrogen Fluoride, Hydrogen Sulfide, Methylamine, Organic Vapor, Sulfur Dioxide, and 99.9% of all particles 0.3 micron or larger.
People keep crossing the street when they see me coming. I guess that's a good thing. Keeps the sicks at a distance.

Yeah. We don’t say that. It’s The 10. The 405 etc

ah, you’re right. Ah, but still, why not just say I-10 instead of the 10?

Its for aesthetics. Women who dont wanna wear make up especially
Posted on 1/31/20 at 10:42 pm to lshuge
they probably wore them back in their old homelands, if they have moved here.
A lot of asians wear surgeon masks in their countries. 3rd world shite holes are 3rd world shite holes, no matter their GDP.
You can put a diamond in a turd, and it's still a turd.

Go to www.purpleair.com and view the map. Air Quality is also worse during the winter. Some areas have routine scary high numbers in the US.

was in a meeting with some vendors and 2 Asian people had medical masks on. I asked 1 if he was doctor getting ready to perform an operation. What's the deal? The Coronavirus isn't here so why the masks?
Culturally, Asians are very respectful of others. If they have a sniffle, or sneezed, or coughed in the last day or two, they will put on the mask - not for their protection. But, for yours.
I’ve had a business associate from Taiwan visit me several times. He always has allergy issues from the cedar trees here in Austin. He knows it is just allergies. He knows he is not contagious. But when he sneezes, he will immediately put the mask on for a couple of days.
I asked him about it and he said, “I know I’m not sick and contagious. But putting on the mask after a sneeze or cough is ingrained in our common hygiene practices. It is the same to us as cleaning up after going to the bathroom.”
So when you see Asians in the US wearing the mask, it *may* be because of them afraid of getting sick. But most likely, they are being respectful of you.
