Kobe woke up this morning.....

Just like he would any other morning. Enjoying the fruits of retirement with his kids.
By 2:00 PM the country was mourning his death.
As a grown man, I still struggle with the concept of death. That family will never see their husband/father and daughter/sister again.
Not that a celebrity death means anymore or less than anyone else. It just shines light on the fact that you never know when your card will be pulled.....

It's not that hard a concept.
You're here, then you're not.

It really does though.

The concept of just being gone is so weird. When family members pass, it’s just like a chunk of what made you who you are is gone. All those memories you shared with that person are now just yours alone to hold.
Kobe was someone everyone watched and idolized when I was in high school. It was bizarre when he retired, this is just unbelievably sad.

Yep. Reminds me of this passage:
Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come. It’s like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with their assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch.
“Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back—whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn. If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping.

Kobe’s death is tragic.
But every sudden death happens this way. This happens hundreds of times every week.

Don’t hold grudges, don’t leave for work mad, don’t go to bed mad. Kiss your family everyday like you’re not coming back.

After awhile its a thought that is easier to process, but it doesn't make you appreciate life any less.
At any moment something can happen to either end our life or send our life in a completely different direction.
The only thing you can gain from it is knowing you can only worry about what you can control.

Beyond the door, there's peace I'm sure.

No human expects or think they will die tragically and suddenly. we all think we will die of old age

Pretty surreal
Lebron’s interview last night about being remembered is pretty eerie to listen to now

quote:this... my step daughter when she was a teen( 31 now no pics ) would get mad at me and before she would go to bed , I would always tell her I love you.. most of the time she wouldn’t say anything back One day she asked me “ Why do you say I love you before you go to bed when I know you’re upset at me?” I said well if I pass in my sleep I want you to know the last thing I said was “ I love you”... I don’t think we have had a conversation since that she hasn’t told me “ love you daddy”

I think about this every time I go somewhere in my helicopter

It's absolutely terrifying man. Think you have to be a sociopath to not fear the thought of never being again.
