Has anyone ever fooled with one of these?
Littlecountry and I went get some soybean at the local hardware store yesterday and I saw a compact rifle behind the gun counter. I figured I’d let littlecountry shoulder it out of curiosity. The thing fits her like a glove and she’s been begging for a “deer killing rifle”. It feels like a pretty solid little rifle and my buddy that works the counter said he’d recommend it. I got delayed, but pulled the trigger on it. Just looking forward any info/upgrades for it since I’m not real familiar with the new savage rifles. What says the OB?

Solid caliber. I killed my first deer with a Remington model 7 708.

I have the exact one. You won’t be sorry. Mine is strait out of the box and is perfectly fine.

I bought the same gun for my son years ago. You won’t regret it

i always look at the savage or weatherby youth 7mm-08 rifles for my son.

Buddy of mine has one in 7mm 08 and I have one for my lil girl in the OBs hated 243.
They are awesome lil guns for the money. They are extremely accurate and make excellent deer rifles.
Only complaint I have with mine is as with most guns these days, the finish is very prone to rust...

I have ruger's version of it for littlest Chandler. It's deadly accurate for such a good price

I've got this rifle. Kilt 3 deer with it this year and a pile of pigs over the last couple of years.

savage is shooting circles around everyone that's sub-$1000 off-the-shelf right now, including Tikka - thats per my 'smith in Woodworth. That caliber is awesome for hunting the southeast for whitetail, coyotes, etc. Good thing about savage, their barreled actions are so popular for custom builds, aftermarket stocks are limitless. you can re-stock it years down the road if you need it to fit better when she gets older. I would have one yesterday if I didnt already have a 7RM & a 243.

Second question, y’all ever shot the custom lite ammo by hornady? What does it compare to a .243 round in terms of recoil? I have an old savage 110 in .243 which I killed my first few deer with. Powpow cut the stock down after I got my .270 so my younger cousins could use it.
Littlecountry is about 60 lbs
Thought I hit submit on this an hour ago

Start her out on the low recoil. As she gets older, more comfortable shooting mover her to a regular round.
The low recoil kills just fine

We all shoot the 7mm-08. My daughter shot her first deer at 8 with a Remington model 7. Some years ago we switched from cheap Winchester ammo to Hornady gmx. These rounds drop them in their tracks...haven’t looked back. At 14 this year she took her first real buck, just dropped. But what makes me really proud is she gutted it with very little help ( busting the hips open) then hung it in the barn and cut it up. Can’t get them started too early...

My kids have one. They’ve killed a pile of deer with it. It drives tacks. Don’t shoot the reduced recoil Hornady rounds. They suck and fragment and don’t exit. Fusion 140s. Don’t look back. I hunt with it in favor of my other rifles sometimes.

Screw hornets. Misfiring SOBs

Great little rifle and a great round. Rifle doesn't have all the bells and whistles of a more expensive one obviously but they shoot great anyway.
I've never shot the reduced recoil hornady stuff but my buddy's 9 year old son has piled up a ton of deer and hogs with it.

My 8 year old shoots that rifle in .308. Killed a deer and ear holed 3 pigs with it this year. First time shooting I loaded a couple of reduced recoils and a 165gr didn’t tell him anything. After the first 3 shots he got to the 165gr and when he shot all he said was that one was louder. Never put another reduced recoil round in the gun.

Anyone have a comparison between this and the mossberg patriot youth model?

My son has been shooting the Hornady Lite Recoil out of the same gun and killed 5 this year. Only had to track one! Used it the last three years and hasn't disappointed us once.

I bought my boys the Youth model savage 7mm-08 and added a muzzle break to it. They shoot hornady custom lite reduced recoil out of it.
The actual recoil is similar to the savage axis bolt action I have chambered in .223 shooting 72 grain Whitetail special ammo. Essentially, un noticeable.

Perfect.
Thanks everyone. Looking forward to her getting behind it
