Amazon says it has fired multiple workers at its Ring security camera business after they were caught abusing access to surveillance video.

Amazon announced the firings in a letter responding to questions from U.S. senators.

The company said over the past four years, Ring received four inquiries about a team member accessing Ring video data.

In the letter, Amazon said the employees involved were authorized to view video data, but what they did went beyond what was necessary to do their jobs.

The company said Ring is now limiting that type of video access to a smaller number of workers.

Amazon, which bought Ring nearly two years ago, declined to say how many people were fired.

Wonder what kind of videos they were looking for? What can you really get from a doorbell camera? Now, if people had interior Ring security cameras then yea that is an issue but does Ring have those?

You've never fricked a woman on the front porch?

Weren't they having a rash of Ring cameras getting "hacked" and people hearing voices through them and whatnot?

If so, did it turn out to be these employees dicking around?

Ring Camera Hacked

quote:

Ashley LeMay and her husband, Dylan Blakeley, said in December that a stranger hacked a camera they set up in their 8-year-old daughter's bedroom and taunted the child. Todd Craig and his girlfriend, Tania Amador, said that same month a hacker threatened them with "termination" if they did not pay a ransom.

What about all those police departments that have access to Ring cameras. I'm sure they'd never abuse it either.

Seems like they would have to look through a million camera just to find some people fricking or whatever. Most likely the cameras aren't in adult bedrooms, so the rare chance they catch them randomly in the act in the living room....not really sure that would have been the cause. It's probably more likely that you'd find some nasty fricker jacking it to the camera, hoping someone was watching.

People are so weird. Who wants to see someone's mailman, or someone sitting on the couch scratching their nuts?

Can the government punish people for doing something they do as well?
