Just be sure not to put your thumbs inside the steering wheel. The air bag could

It's more when the wheel gets jerked.

I alternate. I start off with two hands on the wheel but once I'm on the highway, nice and comfortable, I keep one hand on the wheel until I run into weather or traffic congestion or something else that might be dangerous.

Nah, but probably more often than not these days. I'm getting old I guess.

I do, but only because I like to pay attention to driving when I'm driving

ETA: this obviously excludes low-traffic interstate periods where you can set cruise control, zone out and keep a thumb on the bottom of the wheel

I do all the time because I’m not a dumb arse millennial who thinks he’s invincible. I value my life and that of others.

Most women do, I think

Most men don't, I think

I think a lot of guys are so accustomed to one handed driving that they feel less safe adding a second hand. I think most of us instinctually have a second hand ready when approaching a narrow pass or going through water, but even then steering is steadier one handed if you're not used to using both.

Well that's a little presumptuous and aggressive, but thank you for your input. Safe travels!

If I'm in the center or left lane or if the weather is bad, then yes both hands.

And I'll tell you what brought me to that. The proliferation of people fricking around with their devices while driving. It's shocking to see all these frickers driving in the left lane for instance who have their devices right in front of their faces.

Gives me the frickin' willies.

How?

By having faster reaction times?
Because most of these idiots are riding the brake, so brake lights are constantly on or flashing on to off with little correlation to the actual acceleration of the car. Also, in an emergency situation there is a greater risk of pressing the wrong or both pedals.

I hate getting behind these drivers. It's dangerous to drive this way.

I’ve driven this way my entire adult life and never had an issue.

My daily driver is a stick so I always drive with left hand at 1-2 and right on the shift.

I had to do a winter driving course once and the instructor made this same argument. To try and prove his point he took me on an obstacle course of ice and snow where you had to put the vehicle into skids etc. I passed the course first attempt. Instructor told me that off the record I was right about being able to control the vehicle better with 2 feet.

you are the exception, not the rule

We do not need Brenda in her shitty Buick Speck constantly flashing her brake lights down the whole interstate causing huge bottlenecks

ETA: sorry, brake lights on the interstate make me irrationally angry and I'm hungry rn

I used to but since I now own a car with a stick shift, I keep one hand on the wheel and the other on the stick.

I do, mostly out of habit. I race cars (for fun, not money) and it is hard not to engage in precision, high skill driving even when not out on the track.
