I prefer my Santos Skeleton by Cartier to anything by Rolex.

I was dead wrong about what the pandemic would do to the price of watches in terms of any significant short-term drop

You can't sweat that. Market forces have never been impacted in such a way, and people have never been crazier. Surely values are getting close to turning as it stands. Any thoughts on what, if anything, a big rise in gold prices would do to the watch market?

Date Just - Stainless...

Not sure what it's worth. I never wear it. It is expensive, keeps shitty time and costs alot for reconditioning every 3-5 years.

I have a datejust. I rarely wear it. I have a plain leather band Tissot I wear daily.

Funny you say that because the Mako is a very popular dive watch made by Orient which is owned by the umbrella Seiko Epson, it became a full subsidiary in 2017.

I was just looking at a Orient Mako II Japanese Automatic on Amazon. You seem to be quite informed on watches, what is your opinion of this one? It's pretty sharp looking for the price

Just have a couple of Tissots. Just want a couple that run well and look halfway decent. Would rather spend it on something else.

It is hard to beat the value proposition that Orient dive watches bring to the table, full stop. The Mako II has the upgraded F6922 movement with manual wind, hacking and the accuracy is better than most Seikos twice the price.*

I do think Orient would sell more watches in the US if they had a different name because the vast majority of watch buyers are people that are not watch geeks.

* note at this price point accuracy is a bit of a crap shoot. You could buy two Seikos or Orients with consecutive serial numbers and one could keep COSC level time and the other could be out at the edge of the advertised accuracy limits.

Thanks man. And yeah in the reviews one person says his has only gained 9 seconds in 5 days while another person said theirs is gaining 6 seconds every 24 hrs.

I'm seriously thinking about getting it though, it's pretty nice looking to me

First I live the GMT-Master II but will say the green/black is my least favorite of the bi-color bezels. Plus every time I see pictures of one it strikes me as an odd Rolex, my brain has to adjust.

Idk why they couldn’t have made it with a normal bezel. The green and black is bizarre. But I’m still debating if I should call my AD and get on the list for one to sit on until my son gets older since he’s wrong handed and it would be cool to have a first edition lefty Rolex. I’m also still trying to hunt down a birth year sub for him but the markets is bonkers and I seem to only be able to find them in the UK.

I've had it serviced one time over that time period and it cost about 400. Probably due for another

That service is probably going to cost double or more now.

birth year sub

My birth year is the 168000 sub which I found and had ready to go at the beginning of pandemic but then everything shut down and subsequently the deal fell through. Now the watch is about 150% of the previous cost which is annoying.

I am a lefty as well. I guess I've grown to always wear my watch wrong and on my right wrist. I've tried on lefty watches and because I am so accustom to wearing on my right wrist, its foreign to me plus it makes writing harder than it normally is.

And I agree the green and black is bizarre. OG GMTII is still the best iteration
