I'm pretty sure there was not a Speedmaster on the planet in 1922...

I'm at a crossroads. I've always loved the idea of a mechanical watch because of the innovation of the gearing and such. Why are such things like Citizens eco drive not celebrated? Is it because of the lower price and it isn't behind a paywall? Because it's a quartz? What about Grand Seiko spring drive? It's a marvelous piece of tech and isn't talked about nearly as much as Rolex and Omega. I too was swept away when seeing a big hand be smooth but when I see things like a Speedmaster or any other chrono and the seconds hand is tiny, I ask myself why do I care if it sweeps?

I'm just putting thoughts out and rambling. Also trying to justify spending a lot of money on a watch that I've always wanted but as I get older and more frugal, it becomes harder even though I have the funds now

You know what? You do you. I enjoy my Citizen Eco Drive. I have to adjust it by an hour at every DST change. I never have to change my G-Shock Solar/Atomic watches.

Everyone wears a time piece for different reasons. Very few" watches" make sense these days. At this point, they're worn for jewelry and nostalgic reasons.

You do you.

Bought a 2021 Submariner Date for my 40th birthday. Wear it anytime I leave the house. In a sea of apple watches, it's nice to be the guy with an actual timepiece.

The last thing you're gonna be worried about during the apocalypse is a stupid watch.

Did you buy it from an AD or on the grey market?

Other stupid people that like them don't know that though.

I bounced around google and a bunch of rolex forums getting info on the watches etc. Found a bunch of people who recommended the same AD on Chrono24. Spent a bit of time on there and just following the dealer and their posts.

Went with it, and was not disappointed.

Im not a watch guy, this will be the only real timepiece I ever buy. So wanted to do it right.

I want one but just can’t pull the trigger. For my 40th last year I bought an Oris.
