What’s your take on nato straps on Subs? I like the look

I am soooooo over the NATO trend. I admit to having about 20 of them but rarely ever wear them. I do prefer to wear them with a single piece under the watch. While I hate TGV (he is a plagiarizing rat) this is the first video I found that shows this method, go to 5:58 if the link doesn't start there.

I do like older subs on simple calf straps like in this picture of a Tudor Sub

I admit I think the look of a beat up vintage tool watch is cool on someone else's wrist but I can't do it either.

I have that same strap. Forget the guys name who makes them but he works with some nice leather.

Obtuse1-

I can get a lightly used icw big pilot titanium or a new, no date sub. Both around same price.

I’m torn- what say you?

That will be nice to pass down to your son one day. I’m sure he will treasure it.

The IWC Big Pilot is a large watch, slightly over 46mm in diameter and the lug to lug is about 56mm. The originals were never meant to be worn on the wrist but over the sleeves of bomber jackets. Unless you have wrists closing in on 8" they tend to look out of place but a lot of people wear them with smaller wrists.

For most people, the IWC BP is an occasional watch not so much an everyday watch. If this is to be a mainstay watch I would go with the Sub if it is to have something different to wear but not every day I might go with the BP but only if it is a watch you really love.

I have not been watching the numbers that close but there does seem to be a softening of the market. I don't think now is the time to buy though as I expect you would be grabbing a falling knife. It is so hard to predict in this scenario since there is no modern historical data for a time when the supply of new watches was zero with all the manufacturers closed. If you look at 2008 the prices only took a short term dip and started cranking back up by the end of 2009. In the end this is uncharted territory.

Now that everyone has seen incredible gains in the value of their Rolex(s), any changes in your thoughts on this, Obtuse?

I was dead wrong about what the pandemic would do to the price of watches in terms of any significant short-term drop. Instead of sitting at home worried and not buying people went on a buying spree and coupled with the low supply the market for all the "it" watches just ballooned.

Rolex makes nearly a million watches a year with the cheapest (men's) watches right at $6k and the supply is sold long before it is produced. I have given up on trying to understand it. If you had told me a decade ago that basically the entire Rolex catalog would be unobtanium and they had not reduced production significantly I would have said you were crazy. I still think the gray market inventory is a big part of the problem but until they get burned they are going to keep hoarding.

There are so many grammatical errors I don’t know where to begin. But I guess we can start with the use of commas instead of periods.

Sales awards from companies that were my vendors. I don’t wear watches anymore, so I cannot tell you much about them.

If I wear a daily watch it would be a citizen or seiko as I beat the watches up pretty good. When I did wear watches I could get around 2-1/2 years out of them.

What do you think about the new LH GMT-Master II? I’m a lefty so it’s nice to see them do this for a relatively small market. Do you think it’s one of those limited/single release type models that will be highly collectible or lose value given the smaller target market? I have a Batman/hulk/explorer ii. Thinking I may consider taking a profit on the Batman and getting the lefty watch

I have the Rolex Explorer II (aka Rolex Polar).

Costs $10,000.

Yes, it is definitely worth it.

First I live the GMT-Master II but will say the green/black is my least favorite of the bi-color bezels. Plus every time I see pictures of one it strikes me as an odd Rolex, my brain has to adjust.

I have given up on trying to figure out the future collectability of modern Rolex watches. It used to be simple, the oddballs would win in the end. See the manual wind Daytonas. I am not sure other than visually the 126720VTNR will even be an oddball. The Pelagod LHD has a strong following outside the 10% of people who are left-handed. While I acknowledge the potential of appreciation in watches more and more every day I still strongly suggest people use what they want to wear as the primary buying criteria. If it speaks to you then go for it. When you are able to pick one up for retail selling your Batman will likely mean you got it for more or less "free" and it is an interesting conversation starter with a fellow watch geek such as discussing the historical precedents for a Rolex destro ie Charlie Chaplin's watch Rolex made custom for him.

I own a the black dial explorer 2. I love it but since it’s mint and has box and all the paper work it stays in the bank box. I wear a Grand Seiko as my daily watch it’s bold and for a grand not bad.

I have a Datejust with a Black face, BRACELET:
Jubilee, five-piece Oystersteel and yellow gold

I've had it for 30 years...bought it when I was 26.. for I think 2200, bought it one year old from a jeweler, had it appraised the whole deal... I had no business buying one at 26...but I was single and have enjoyed it all the years. Don't wear it as much as they are designed..Jeweler told they are made to run / be worn

I have no idea what it's worth today but it still looks new. I've paid insurance for it 30 years, so not sure where I am on that investment.

I've had it serviced one time over that time period and it cost about 400. Probably due for another

New models are like 10,600
