Why is it cool to commit a penalty that is cheap as frick and can end a players career? Not hating on Carter, but that was a dumb and classless move.

Because the rules are changing football by making penalties of what for over 100 years were legal and aggresive plays. Look at the ridiculous kick off rules where you can field the damn ball in the field of play and call fair catch and still get the ball at the 25 yard line. They are going to take the kick off out of the game completely soon. They have already proposed to do just that but it fell short. This is changing the game and taking away one of the most exciting plays in football.

Do you call that a "safety measure"? Then ban the entire fricking sport because BY DESIGN football is a violent sport and if you girls don't like it then go bake some damn cookies and leave the sport alone.

The NFL and it’s rewriting rules to try and prevent lawsuits has brainwashed everyone about football.

That it should have drawn a flag.

Football is a better sport without these plays. Maybe one day you will realize that.

All you macho guys should watch rugby. There is zero doubt that rugby players are tough, by any standard, but you don't these dangerous plays. If something does happen, it's dealt with harshly.

Playing these sports correctly necessarily exposes one to injury, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't try to limit injuries.

Y’all would crying like little girls if a Bama player had lit one of ours up like that.

Carter doesn't know how to block soft. Would love to see him on the defensive team. His killer instinct would fit well at defensive end. Does he have another year?

The UGA player knew the hit was coming and it is ridiculous to call that a dirty play. The rules are ridiculous and need to be changed. They are taking the aggression from Football.

the UGA guy sees Carter a full FIVE yards before the hit comes. not sure why he didn't just ole him matador style and make him look like a fool. a very simple spin move would have had Carter flat on his belly. that guy engaged and readied himself for the shot. he just lost. hard.

Now that right there is bulllshit - you do no favor for those of us who really enjoy good hard-hitting football and object to the pussification of the rules.

But THAT was an unacceptable example of what gives impetus to these 'pussification' rules.

Nobody can look at that hit and not agree that the player should be penalized and ejected.

Good Lord man - just some common sense.

Want to do away with all of this??? ==== TAKE AWAY THE FACE MASKs!!!!!

None of these 'pretty boys" are going to grow up using the helmet as a weapon if their pretty white teeth are going to end up on the turf = and broken noses are not attractive either.

The helmet is supposed to protect the wearer - NOT to injure the opponent.

I was the center on our HS football team in the mid-50s. Since I was so small, my coach got me a nose guard = single bar in front of my face. Was the only player in my district to wear one. We played rougher than you can even imagine - but NOBODY stuck their pretty faces into the block/tackle. We used our shoulder pads into the center of mass. We blocked and tackled - we didn't injure.

btw - helmets back then were just plastic shells with some nylon webbing inside. Mine was way too large. The "nose guard" received a lot of forearms that jammed my helmet down to make impact with my nose - I carried a permanent scab across my nose during football season.

That hit was about as dirty of a hit as you will see. It was a cheap shot plain and simple.
Sorry, but I disagree. If you look at only the hit in slow motion, it looks worse. In real time, it looked bang bang where the GA player unexpectedly dropped at the last second and contact was with Carter's shoulder as much as his helmet. At least that's the way that I saw it.

It was NOT dirty hit. Nor was it a "blindside" hit. The Georgia player SAW him coming and BRACED for the hit!!!!!

It is football! That was a great play, a great block.

Watch the replay. Tory came all the way across the field for that guy. I've known him since he was in highschool. He's not a dirty player, usually. I think he was trying to make a statement for his Ga boys.

How was it a punk move? They were both headed directly at each other and it was a straight up hit, a collision.

Not a blindside.

Or did you not watch the linked videos and not note the screen capture from the instant before the hit?

Carter zeroed in on that guy from the kick and ran right at him. The GA player was running straight toward Carter as well, but pulled up at the last instant and got his clock cleaned by Carter who did not slow down or pull up.

Outside the rules yes due to slightly low helmet position -- bad technique. Punk move? That was two big men trying each other. UGA dude lost.

Punk moves are blindside hits like the UCF D-lineman did to Joe Burrow last year in the bowl game.

This was a head on collision where both players were looking dead at each other the whole way in.

Mano a mano.

There are sports safety studies that actually prove this -- to some extent.

The idea is that the evolution of lighter, more durable gear coupled with stronger, faster players -- has fostered an unconscious feeling of invincibility.

So players are less concerned about their own safety when hitting because they are confident the gear will protect them. They also hit harder and more recklessly because they are confident their opponent's gear will protect them.

So as helmet companies continue working to make "safer" helmets -- the larger issues will still persist.

If you went back to leather helmets with no facemasks -- I guarantee you that those violent hits would reduce significantly.

Lol no way you can think that. Watch the video again. Carter came out of nowhere, on what he knew was a touchback, and gave that guy brain damage for no good reason.

He is lucky that he was ejected from the game and that we may avoid Georgia completely next year.

That hit is the reason why they're trying to get rid of kickoffs.

You can always still hit a guy that hard, just drop your damn body height and hit him in the chest/hips not straight to the side of the head.
