Power 5 OOC scheduling

The way Texas has fallin apart, it basically made that game on the road in 100 degrees useless unless you lose it. Oregon lost to Az. St. that’s true. But had they won that game, if they would’ve just played some nobody school, they’d be in the playoff. So in LSU’s case, a loss to a pretty good Texas team at the time would be detrimental now because UT isn’t as good as they were in Week 2. I love watching those type of games, but they very rarely are beneficial. Just my thoughts.

Understand what you are saying . It is frustrating.
LSU not getting credit beating Texas ; but Baylor gets credit for beating Texas.
UGA beating Notre Dame carries a lot of weight.
Bama beating Duke ended up hurting

LSU going into Texas and further out West helps with recruiting and helps build the LSU brand.

Will Wade is the scheduling king. Take a page out of his book. Schedule a lot of projected 8-4 and 9-3 types from the AAC and Conference USA. Ohio State is getting more credit for crushing Cincinatti than we’re getting for crushing Texas AM or beating Texas. Both of whom would be handily favored over Cincinatti

Even with the AZ State loss, Oregon gets in if they play a cupcake instead of Auburn.
The committee has shown that OOC doesn't matter as it pertains to making the playoff.
The risk of the OOC team being trash later on or worse the risk of you losing to them, is too great to outweight just taking a free W against a remedial school

The Texas game was a blast and I can assure you that getting ready for that game and winning that game on the road in that environment (biggest UT home game in a long long time) paid massive dividends during the season. I’d much rather play our ooc or Auburn’s than bamas. Too short of a season to not have a fun big time ooc matchup

Play the best... It usually works out. The football gods usually reward the best team with a national championship some type of way. See 2007.

Completely understand that it didn't help us this year, but it was the reason we played for a NC in 2007. We boat raced VTech who was #3 which is why we got in.

Just off the top of my head we have beaten Oregon, TCU, Miami, Wisconsin, UNC, Syracuse, VA Tech, Arizona St., Washington, and UT over the past however many years. We’ve lost to Wisconsin at Lambeau and VA Tech at Blacksburg. Not sure what the angle is here, but we’ve been pretty fricking good in these games.
Edited to add VA Tech home and away, Arizona St, and Washington

it's even worse...
comparing SEC to Big Ten head to head for Power 5 non-conference wins...
both conferences have 14 teams
4 Big Ten schools didn't play Power 5 non-conference games (Wisconsin, Minnesota, Indiana & Illinois)
2 SEC schools didn't play Power 5 non-conference games (Tennessee & Arkansas)
SEC was 9-6 or 60.0% win % vs. Power 5 non-conference
Big Ten was only 6-5 or 54.5% vs. Power 5 non-conference
and the CFP committee elevated the playoff ranking for 4 Big Ten schools (all of whom played tOSU)
and with Bama's poor schedule... prior to the Iron Bowl, the CFP committee had Bama right on the doorstep of the playoff, even with their awful schedule.

This is the real shitty thing about scheduling a power 5 Texas. You get no credit for scheduling them if they don't have a great season. Essentially, it's held against us.

I think Oregon should get the nod over Baylor/OU for scheduling better.

I disagree. I think winning that game was very beneficial for the team. When we got to the meat of our SEC schedule, we had already played a big time game in a hostile environment, gotten into a shootout, and won. I’m glad we had that experience rather than another cupcake win when we played Florida, for example.
Wins like that are great for the team, regardless of whether they help us in the committee’s eyes. With all of the rent-a-wins and SECw bottom feeders nowadays, you only get 3-4 opportunities to really see what the team is made of.
Also, most if not all season ticket holders would rather have a home game against Texas next year than Western Kentucky.

So....
I think you mean Auburn?
Az State is a conference game.
Cupcake or not, you have to play conference game.

Just win,
We literally have destiny in our hands. They will make Movies of this

Was it just me, or did anyone else see how espn talkin’ heads used our win against Texas to degrade our cred....
Completely dismissed Georgia loss to South Carolina. Leaving their “eye test” in tact.
What did LSU do to deserve continual dissing by these guys

The committee a couple of years in a row has ignored strength of schedule. Bama and Clemson got ranked all year based on reputation instead of competition on the field.
We still do not know what Clemson has relative to the top ten/fifteen teams.
Bama feel apart, albeit in close games to LSU and Auburn. Had Bama played a more difficult schedule who knows what would have happened.
On the other hand LSU played at Texas, Auburn andFlorida. Took some big punches.. responded.. so the magnitude of playing at Bama was something LSU knew they could overcome.
Georgia has played a solid schedule

Not sure what your point is here... ASU is a conference game for the Ducks...

To be fair to Ohio State, generally they have a big time power 5 matchup every year out of conference. Luckily this year Cincinnati turned out to be a decent team. Next year Ohio State is @ Oregon. In a few years Ohio State has Washington AND Texas.

We also played West Virginia in 2011 and crushed them with Geno Smith as the qb. Also played Arizona in 2003 and 2006.
