Don't get my wrong I am not a fan of bridges in general, but the Lake Charles bridge always makes my arse tighten.

I have not heard of any plans for that state to release ITB's let alone the design it would take to get this thing going.

It's a design build. It could very well start in 2021. Main barriers are the political and public buy in.

There are so many misconceptions about how P3's and toll-based infrastructure works. This addresses one of them. Another old-tyme misconception is that there will be drive-through, slow-down toll booths manned with employees collecting dollar bills from drivers fumbling through their wallets. Not true. Digital plate scanners/tag scanners.

Get out and see the country. Travel through Ohio, Indiana and Illinois. You will find Interstate toll roads.

The design is flawed.

How bout the study that says THE CURRENT FRICKIN BRIDGE IS DOOMED TO COLLAPSE ANY DAY NOW

Well if a study said that it would be a lie because it isn't in bad shape at all structurally. Yea we need a new one though.

Suspension bridges are the biggest pieces of crap ever designed. Maintenance is a nightmare. All to save a little steel and concrete.
They should keep that damn thing as simple as possible and save everyone some money.

What do you think is the ideal bridge design/concept?

"(If) you live within 100 miles of the bridge, when you get your vehicle registration, you get a speed pass," Higgins said. "That would erase local concerns from folks who cross the bridge here every day."

frick THAT! You freeloading sons of bitches. You use it the most, you should pay the most for it.

Damn, I really hate this "someone else should pay for it" bullshite mentality Louisianan citizens have.

Typical statist logic.

This

Locals should only get to cross for free if that is the only possible route

ie the grand isle toll bridge

I didn’t think you could toll a main section of the interstate?

Is the rationale to provide the 210 to people who don’t want tolls?

Why would locals be exempt from paying the tolls? Doesn’t the defeat the whole purpose?

A suspension bridge is also necessary when you have to reduce the amount of supporting columns. In this instance, the designer will likely have to try to create the longest spans within reason to reduce the amount of disturbance in the polluted soil below.

Yes. New York and New Jersey do it. They aren't federal roads, they're state maintained roads that received federal funding and a national designation. Which is why I-10 in Louisiana is complete dogshit while I-10 is Texas is pleasant for the most part.

Why is such an expensive bridge needed? Just build something easy like the bridge over the Sabine River.

Calcasieu: "The bridge has a vertical clearance of 135 feet"

Sabine: "Vertical clearance below bridge: 49.2 ft. [15.0 m]"

If I have to explain this, God help us all.

The Coast Guard would differ. They damn sure wouldn't build it at 49 ft as you suggest.
