Standoff between Police and Students at the Chinese University of Hong Kong

I'm just spreading the word because, perhaps not surprisingly, the developments are being buried in the news by mainstream media.
For several hours, police attempted to overrun the Chinese University of Hong Kong without a search warrant. Earlier in the day, they arrested several college students for no apparent reason. There are strong indications that many of the police are not from Hong Kong, but have been brought into Hong Kong from mainland China.
In response, the students created barriers over a bridge to the university, and they held that barrier for approximately 12 hours. The vice chancellor of the university attempted to speak to police peacefully but was tear gassed.
Massive amounts of tear gas and rubber bullets were subsequently shot at students. Many have been injured badly and are being taken care of in makeshift facilities on campus. Amazingly, students from all over the city have traveled to the Chinese University to support the blockade. The students threw molotov cocktails and set fires to keep the police back.
At the moment, the students seem to have scored a victory because the police have backed off. The situation could change at any time, however.
UPDATE: Right now, the students seem to be busily reinforcing their barricade across the bridge. They're constructing more molotov cocktails. My friends in Hong Kong, however, are telling me that the police are gearing up to return, with additional forces.

Here was a live stream from the university. It's now a 3+ hour documentation of what happened at the height of the conflict:

China is going to make the mistake of all totalitarian regimes.
They are going to attack innocent people publicly.

I don’t think that every issue should be everybody’s problem,. There’s multiple things that we haven’t talked about that happen in our own country that we don’t bring up. There’s things that happen in my own community. ...
There’s issues all over the world, and I think the best thing we can do is, if you feel passionate about it, talk about it. If you don’t have a lot of knowledge about it or you don’t quite understand it, I don’t think you should talk about it. I think it just puts you in a tough position.

A Potential Tragedy at the Chinese University of Hong Kong
You know how this goes. China has a leader for life supported by the only ruling Party and the military. So anyone who opposes them are going to ultimately pay the price. At least in these times we will have photo and video evidence of atrocities. Just keep in mind there are politics in this country that would also like one party rule. And it is a weakness in the makeup of mankind that the masses will support voluntarily or otherwise this type of governing structure.

China can deal with their own problems. We have enough here in our own country to worry about that

On the news yesterday I watched a police officer shoot a protestor for arguing with him, then another protestor for trying to help the one who was shot. All on video. frick these totalitarian bastards.

Students in this country would welcome their fascist overlords with open arms.

People better damn well wake up and pay attention to what happens with China. They have a very strong influence in the world - much larger than when Tiananmen Square occurred. The never should've been give MFN status without more reforms.
There will be future conflict in the world with the path China is on today.

frick China! Let’s go Hong Kong! Stand up to China!

Really torn here. Chinese government are murderous thugs who need to be removed from power. OTOH, protestors blocking roadways piss me off and I support their removal by any non-lethal means necessary. Probably going to have to side with students over communists but it’s a hard call.
