Gus's seasons their chicken overnight so all the spices have time to set in and be absorbed. They also fry their chicken in peanut oil. The only people that say they don't like Gus's are people with poor heat tolerance, peanut allergy, or they order chicken tenders expecting it to be Chick-fil-a. Hell I think the tenders are on the kids menu and not the real menu. The chicken is just a fuzz spicy and even those that don't tolerate heat still finish their plates. I have a friend with a peanut allergy, it isn't bad but she'll even get a bite.

Dodge's gas station has some good chicken, too.

Don't do this at Gus's.... I know several people who all got food poisoning directly after eating at Gus's and eating tenders.

I saw the son in front of Calandro’s a few months ago giving lapel pins out for Vietnam Veterans support-which he did 2 tours. He’s in his 70’s now and we were talking about the chicken po boys. He reminded me that the dark meat was in brown butcher paper and the white meat in white butcher paper.

That’s a good call and one I miss.

I also miss the egg salad sandwiches and pimento cheese sandwiches only served on Friday in wax paper bags for $.50. We would come home from school and my mother had a platter of those. Or we would get the chicken and go eat at Goodwood Park.

Remember the airplane on the roof?

What's your opinion on Chicken King? Either Port Barre or Opelousas?

I eat nothing but the spiciest wing basically anytime I have wings. Just my opinion. The couple times I’ve had gus’ it wasn’t that good at all. Maybe I’ll try it again but it’s been average at best.

Pope Yes

Has had it for a while. Unless you live with me.

If you don’t fry chicken often.... don’t ever try.

Fried chicken isn’t something you’re gonna master in your first attempt

I’m sure all the local Baws have their spot but if I’m ever in Istanbul, Turkey airport again it’s Popeyes FYW

Is it good?

I've never stopped at Chicken King in Port Barre, because I always head to Mama's.. but I ALWAYS see cars there and nice looking folks coming in and out. I'll have to stop.

I miss Mama's Tasty Foods on Louisiana Avenue. Someone needs to get the recipe and revive that place.
