. I thought i remember hearing he had a rim protecting stat that was elite last year or the year before.
He did. It was posted last year when someone was making stuff up about his lack if rim protection.

The stats really dont tell the whole story on Zo in last nights game. It was by far the best all around game hes played all season. Some of those pick and roll wrap around passes he made to Jah were incredible, and he didnt force any off the dribble 3s. When he plays within himself you can see the potential.

where's the stats that show that? curious to see them.
don't know how to imbed a picture but I use a combination of the advanced stats on NBA.com and basketball-reference.com
on Basketball-Reference Jah's DBPM is the highest in his career through 5 games (hope he keeps that up). historically however, he is in the -1.5-0.5 range for DBPM which again isn't terrible but not great. his DWS is pretty low too. combine that with the fact that he typically has played against bench units & not starters, and it doesn't translate well for him.
now can we agree that Etwaun Moore is a pretty below average defender?
if you compare Moore's DBPM & DWS to Jah (I know there's a difference in guards vs bigs but this is for a general reference) LINK, there isn't much of a difference
it's not a great comparison and obviously there are more stats for rim protection, PPP, etc but it ballparks it for you. then go check out Favors advanced stats & see the difference.

Last night was very impressive.
Offensively, I feel like he's going to score every single time he has the ball in the paint, he is so skilled.
quote:How was Jah's defense? I watched but was doing a bit of fast forwarding and had kids running around with Halloween and what not for the 1st half of the game, so I wasn't that plugged in.
Jah deserves to start right now and maybe even after Favors comes back.

If we're pushing the pace and making 3's, then Okafor/Hayes are the better option
If we're getting bogged down in half-court sets, on offense or defense, then Favors is probably better suited for it

I just don't care to look at any stats of Okafor before he got here. He wasn't the same player, and he was in a messed up situation altogether with Philly.
Is he guarding guards or forwards? Is he starting or coming off the bench?
Etwaun is not an elite defender, but he is by no means a bad defender when he's guarding other backup guards like himself.
The thing with looking at these defensive stats is that neither Okafor or Moore are great defenders, and they aren't going to stand out defensively on their own. They don't influence the defense like Jrue does, or kawhi, or Gobert.
Those guys can play for any team and they will boost everyone on the floors defensive stats.
Role playing defenders like Okafor and Moore, while they can influence their own stats, are more tied to how the team defense does, and we haven't been good on defense. Evidence by Jrue's Stats.
How do you defend Jrue's average to below average defensive stats?
There's individual defense, and there's team defense. the only guys that can truly influence the team defense on their own are dominant centers. Okafor isn't one, but that doesn't mean he's a bad defender.

Great to see Holiday come alive. Makes all the difference in the world when he’s a threat on the court.
I’m glad they finally made those defensive adjustments. They finally sagged off during dribble penetration and switched off the bigs and it worked out nicely since we have big guards. Not always going to pay off but I’m glad they’re finally made some kind of adjustments on defense.
Frank Jackson was unstoppable last night. I hope he continue to be super aggressive. He played like he wanted to win. Need that type of aggression from our bench on a regular basis. Hope he is able to develop into that reliable 6th man role because there’s no question he’s at his best when he’s looking for his shot.
Lots of positive from last nights game and I hope to see a run start with the next 2 being very winnable games. The road to .500 starts now.

I’m not disagreeing with you Teddy. I said Jah is a below average to average defender. He’s not terrible (aka not a liability) but he’s not above average either (unless his current play continues). And that there has been a large difference between Jah as a defender & Favors as a defender historically

The Okafor who lost 15 pounds this offseason and fixed his sleep apnea is a different guy from the one who played for us last year.

I started reading this thread without looking at the date. I thought I was losing my mind with the Jah takes.

We have a clear #2 in Ingram that can be a clear #1 right now while his running mate (Zion) gets better.
I'm not so sure Ingram doesn't remain #1 on offense. The guy has a dog in him that we haven't seen since Chrissy Poo. Jrue shows flashes of that kind of mojo, but he lets his foot off the gas too often. Ingram just attacks and gets after it. We may just have ourselves 1A and 1B in a year or 2.

Teddy, I think you’re right about Favors’ potential. The entire roster needs more time playing together to fine tune their individual roles. I see reason for optimism when the Pels kick themselves into high gear. Meyers and Daniels see these guys every night, and their main take is that these guys have to have a sense of urgency for a full 48 minutes. If they do, they’re a tough team to beat.

This thread is evidence why you don’t judge a team or players on one game or a handful of games. Way too many people overreact

last game was nice, but i guess i didn't see as much ball movement as some others.
Sloppy turnovers.
I still don't understand why KW and Hart play at the same time.
