Back in 86 or 87, we would go to Cypress Hollow all the time. We got to know the bartenders and the owner, really felt like it was “our place”. We watched an old artist paint a mural on the back wall of a swamp scene with an old Cajun bar on the water, and lots of bull frogs playing instruments. It was great.

Then a couple of years later the so-called “Art Bar” took over the joint, and the first fricking thing they did was paint over the mural with mustard yellow paint and hang some douchie modern goth art that you could buy for $5 a painting at a festival in Port Allen.

Art Bar my arse!

They say under renovations but it's been like 2 years (or so it feels like). Feels like they could have torn it down and rebuilt a brand new venue in that time if that's all it was so I'm not really buying that excuse.

Cypress Hollow was a great place to go when you were tired of noise and electronic dance music; it was just a laid-back, mellow, place that attracted a rather diverse collection of people.

Cool I got the order wrong. Loved it through all its names/ owners. So much good live music over the years.

I've enjoyed my time there, but glad it's gone.

Too inconsistent throughout the years. Seems like when they had some good stuff going on it would be temporary and then go to not being much.

Renovations started last May but it hasn't been touched in close to a year.

This is truly also my definition of “art”.

He’s my friend and he would balk at the idea of you calling him flamboyant

I can’t think of his name but meat knew him as well. We are talking about the guy who would basically wear a costume?

He makes all his own stuff. Still does it. It’s pretty badass.
